The Endsars Protest; Cause of Loss of Lives And Wanton Destruction.
The current loss of lives and wanton destruction of government and private properties in Nigeria, as regards the Endsars protest is due to improper and non proactive handling of an obviously fragile situation by government at all levels on one hand. Government failed on the ground of parenting for being high-handed.
And on the other hand, due to lack of focus, hindsight and able leadership by the protesters to foresee what apparently was coming in order to avert the impending disaster.
The authentic protesters should have instantly made their stance known by given government a quick ultimatum and leave the streets, since criminal elements were introduced by evil minded persons who wanted to hijack the situation to suit their advantage and personal interest.
THE WAY FORWARD
I wish to recommend that the genuine Endsars protesters should make a strong statement through a press conference.
1.While there is distrust in the political class by the youths,they should give government an ultimatum e.g. Like six months to implement the demands of the youths or they are coming back to protest again.
2. A statement requesting miscreants causing mayhem and wanton destruction of government and private property and distortion of free flow of movement to immediately quit the street in the interest of peace.
3. That, the Law should take its course against anyone who henceforth, perpetrate evil in the streets of Nigeria in the name of Endsars protest, and deal with decisively. Security agencies should be highly professional in their dealings, even as we do not want loss of lives anymore.
On the side of the government, I strongly advocate that the leadership of the current administration should at least, be 100% sincere in implementing the demands of the youth because we owe it as a legacy to posterity to bequeath a foundation of a better Nigeria, with enabling environment where there is equity in the provision of adequate employment and business opportunities for the youth.
A country where good and functional health care delivery system is available, coupled with sound, standard but affordable educational system most comparable to globally accepted best practice.
A country where the security agents are well paid with good quarters to enhance motivation.
A country where the security agencies are more professional and follow rulers of engagement strictly, where safety of live and property is guaranteed.
A country where there are good roads, constant power and pipe borne water.
Government is admonished to stop using solders on purely civil matters, as they are trained to fight war, and there was no war at Lekki tollgate.
CONCLUSION
Nigeria is our own, we do not have any other country. Therefore, all hands must be on deck to salvage it from this impasse under the prevailing situation.
