Teaching is often undervalued, seen through the lens of modest paychecks rather than its profound purpose. Many overlook the deeper impact teachers make, focusing instead on financial limitations. However, teaching is not about the paycheck—it’s about passion, purpose, and the desire to shape future generations. Teachers guide students on a journey of self-discovery, preparing them to lead and shape society.

The rewards of teaching extend far beyond the classroom. Teachers mold the minds that will build tomorrow’s world. They are the architects of society, passing on the torch of knowledge, wisdom, and character. Their influence is immeasurable, and their legacy is felt for generations.

The value of teaching lies not in immediate financial gain, but in the lifelong impact on students and society. Teaching is a noble calling—one that transforms lives and shapes the future. Today, let’s celebrate the selfless dedication of teachers who light the path for us all.
Happy Teachers’ Day!

*The Messiah and the New C. Ronaldo of Wesley Primary School*

My journey to Wesley Primary School Oko 1, Sagamu, started off peaceful and straightforward. However, I didn’t make it to the right school at first. I mistakenly stopped at Wesley Primary School 2, which left me a bit confused. I met the head teacher there, and she kindly explained that the school I was looking for was just next door. By the time I figured this out, it was already 2 PM, and the school had closed for the day.

With that, my next challenge was to find accommodation. For now, I’m staying with some people in Ikenne. The following day, I finally arrived at Wesley Primary School Oko 1. To my surprise, I was welcomed like a long-awaited Messiah. It felt as if the entire school had been waiting for my arrival, like I was the new Cristiano Ronaldo here to score hat-tricks and solve all their problems.

The head teacher immediately started telling me about the challenges the students were facing in each class. She even asked me to train the children for a competition they’re preparing for. It was like an expert from the U.S.A. had joined the school, and I was expected to fix everything at once! The joy on the students' faces when they saw me was overwhelming. Their expectations were sky-high, and it made me understand what footballers like Ronaldo must feel when they’re bought for huge fees—carrying the weight of everyone’s hopes.

My trip to the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) was tough. With financial constraints and heavy rain pouring down on me, it wasn’t easy. Despite these challenges, I just hope I won’t fail to meet the expectations placed on me.

Throwback:
Creating a Reading Corner and Storytelling Space at Ademeg Nursery and Primary School, Makoko

In early June 2024, with the support of our incredible partners at KIR Foundation, we launched a reading corner and storytelling initiative at Ademeg Nursery and Primary School in Makoko. This initiative was designed to foster a love of reading and ignite the imagination of our young learners. By creating a dedicated space for books and storytelling, we aim to provide the students with an engaging environment that encourages curiosity and creativity.

The reading corner has quickly become a cherished part of the school, where students gather to explore new worlds through the stories shared with them. With the vibrant addition of storytelling sessions, the children are not only developing their literacy skills but also learning valuable lessons from the tales that inspire them.

Through this initiative, we are committed to nurturing a culture of learning and helping our students dream beyond their surroundings. Together with KIR Foundation, we are creating a space where education becomes an adventure, one story at a time.

A Ray of Hope in the Classroom

There are moments when I feel disheartened about the condition of our school building, wishing the classroom could be more conducive for my students. On one such low day, these amazing children filled the space with their smiles, laughter, and joy. They took over the moment, capturing memories in pictures, and reminded me that their happiness and eagerness to learn outweigh the challenges we face. Their bright spirits lifted mine, showing me once again that their resilience and positive energy can turn any situation around. They are not just students—they are my inspiration.
Happy Resumption.

In today's ever-changing world, technology is essential for improving educational opportunities. My experience at the Teach For Nigeria Pre-Service Training Institute over the last two weeks has shown the potential to combine leadership development with classroom teaching. My understanding of teaching and learning has changed through ideas like self-awareness, grit, resilience, and a growth mindset, which have real-world applications that can transform both educators' and students' lives.

A more dynamic and inclusive learning environment can be created by allowing students to take on leadership roles and by embracing my role as a student. This approach not only boosts students' confidence but also fosters a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. After the training, I began a project to develop a student management system using face recognition technology. Initially, my focus was on technical details, ensuring the system worked well and was user-friendly. However, as I progressed, I started considering the diverse needs of students, especially those with hearing and vision difficulties. This realization was both frightening and enlightening, making me question whether my initial strategy was inclusive enough and if I should adjust it to suit all students.

The challenge lies in the short deadline, with less than three days to finish the project. I need to balance creativity with pragmatism, ensuring the project is both inclusive and completed on time. In summary, this experience has taught me that while creativity and diversity are crucial in educational technology, they must be balanced with time constraints. I will strive to incorporate these principles into my work, ensuring all students, regardless of ability, have access to the resources they need to succeed.
