NANS STOP INSULTING SEN. GODSWILL AKPABIO
The attention of Godswill Akpabio Fan Club (GAFC) has been drawn to insultive and provocative remarks as contained in a purported Press Statement issued by the National Association of Nigerian Student,NANS,-Zone B and signed by one Pedro Obi who is said to be the organization's Public Relations Officer. The venoms and invectives contained in the said Press Statement is an insult to His Excellency, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio and the sensibility of Akwa Ibom people.
The questions to ask Mr. Pedro Obi are:
(1) when did Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke mandated him or NANS-ZONE B to speak on his behalf on issue concerning Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly?
(2) What role do NANS got to do with the proceedings of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly?
(3) Why is NANS deviating from its core objectives of protecting the welfare and interest of Nigerian Students and meddled into the activities of a State Legislature?
We want to submit that the issue of the leadership of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has been blown out of proportion by spectators and therefore call on those making inciting and provocating statements to desist from it henceforth.
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has unanimously elected Hon. Elder Aniekan Uko as the Speaker and that decision was a collective decision of the entire House which Rt. Hon. Luke has earlier congratulated Hon. Aniekan Uko and promised to work with him to succeed in the four years of his mandate. That decision stand and should not attract uncomplimentary remarks from passersby who do not have any idea of the workings of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
We therefore call on Mr. Pedro Obi as matter of urgency to tender an unreserved apology to His Excelency, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke and the good people of Akwa Ibom State. We also want to use this medium to appeal strongly to groups and individuals in and outside the State not to make unguided statements on issues that may cause disaffection among our leaders.
We should team up with all our elected and appointed leaders at different levels of governance to give them our unflinching support for them to succeed in the interest of the generality of Akwa Ibom people so as to move the State forward. What we need in Akwa Ibom State is peace for development to thrive.
Meanwhile, we want to use this medium to thank Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke for issuing a press statement dissociating himself from such provocative remarks which is disaffecting among our people especially our political leadets. We salute his political maturity and patriotic zeal in handling such sensitive issues and urge him to continue to promote such democratic ideals for the peace and development of our dear state.
