Jos North bleedsโฆ and this is painful to witness.
The continued killing of innocent citizens in our communities is not normal, and it should never be treated as something we simply move on from.
What happened in Gari Ya Waye Community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, Plateau State is heartbreaking. Lives have been cut short, families have been shattered, and once again, ordinary people are left to carry the pain.
At a time like this, leadership must rise beyond speeches, politics, and campaign noise.
The safety of the people should be the first responsibility of government.
This is not the time to focus on political ambition while citizens continue to live in fear.
This is the time for:
- real security action
- intelligence-driven response
- community protection
- justice for victims
- and visible commitment to human lives
A nation cannot move forward when its people are constantly looking over their shoulders.
I created this map not just as a visual, but as a reminder that every attack has a location, every location has people, and every life lost matters.
Enough is enough.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Jos North and every affected family.

Captured from the air.
Processed in Agisoft Metashape.
The question now becomes: how far can the data take the analysis?
Iโd be interested to hear how you would approach the volume estimation workflow from here.

You should know by now that maps are more than just visuals showing lines and coloursโthey are tools for understanding concepts, interpreting spatial relationships, and ultimately, reading a region.
In this geospatial breakdown of North Central Nigeria, I mapped key layers such as roads, rivers, settlements, railways, airports, and administrative boundaries to show how spatial data helps us better understand the structure and function of a region.
Rather than seeing a map as just lines and symbols, each layer tells a story:
1. Road networks reveal accessibility and movement corridors
2. River systems show natural barriers, environmental influence, and terrain control
3. Settlements reflect human distribution and regional activity
4. Railways highlight strategic connectivity
5. Airports represent mobility and regional access points
6. Boundaries provide administrative context for planning and governance
This is one of the powerful things about GIS: it helps us move from simply looking at places to actually understanding how they work spatially.
For learners and geospatial professionals, this kind of exercise is valuable because it strengthens:
1. Spatial thinking
2. Layer interpretation
3. Cartographic design and
4. Regional analysis skills
Tools Used
โข Excel
โข ArcGIS 10.5
This is part of a broader effort to use mapping not just for analysis, but also for learning, awareness, and geospatial enlightenment.

This is a geospatial intelligence concept focused on analyzing Nigeriaโs geopolitical zones by integrating infrastructure, environmental, and economic insightsโstarting with the South-South Nigeria.
The South-South region consists of Akwa Ibom State, Bayelsa State, Cross River State, Delta State, Edo State, and Rivers State, forming the core of Nigeriaโs coastal and energy-producing belt.
The region is widely recognized for
* Oil and Gas production, making it the energy hub of Nigeria.
* It also features dense river networks, wetlands, and
* A strategic coastal position that supports maritime trade and logistics.
The region is supported by major seaports such as Port Harcourt Port, Onne Port, Warri Port, and Calabar Port, alongside critical road networks. It is further characterized by extensive river systems, creeks, and a mix of dense urban settlements and industrial infrastructure.
From an investment perspective, the South-South offers
* Strategic coastal access for imports and exports,
* Strong economic value driven by the energy sector, and
* Significant opportunities in marine logistics, infrastructure development, and environmental monitoring.
However, the region faces notable challenges including flooding and waterlogged terrain, difficult accessibility in riverine areas, infrastructure gaps in rural communities, and environmental and pipeline-related risks.
๐๐ง๐ค๐ช๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ฎ: Despite being Nigeriaโs economic backbone, the region continues to experience environmental stress and infrastructure limitations, highlighting the need for smarter, data-driven planning approaches.
By integrating GIS, remote sensing, and drone technology, solutions can be developed for
* Flood risk monitoring,
* Infrastructure inspection,
* Smart logistics optimization, and
* Environmental impact assessmentโproviding insights for companies, governments, and investors.
As this analysis expands to other regions, the goal remains clear: to leverage geospatial intelligence for sustainable development and economic growth across Nigeria.

This is a geospatial intelligence concept focused on analyzing Nigeriaโs geopolitical zones by integrating infrastructure, environmental, and economic insightsโnow shifting focus to North-East Nigeria.
The North-East region consists of Adamawa State, Bauchi State, Borno State, Gombe State, Taraba State, and Yobe State, forming one of Nigeriaโs largest landmass regions with diverse terrain and strategic inland positioning.
The region is widely recognized for its agricultural potential, vast land availability, and proximity to international borders (Cameroon, Chad, Niger), making it important for cross-border trade and regional connectivity. It also features savannah landscapes, river systems, and areas of ecological significance.
Unlike the South-South, the North-East has no seaports, making it heavily dependent on road and limited rail networks for logistics. Key infrastructure includes:
* Major highways linking states and neighboring countries
* Airports in strategic cities (e.g., Maiduguri, Yola)
* River systems such as parts of the Benue River basin
* Emerging but limited rail development
From an investment perspective, the North-East offers:
* Large land availability for agriculture and renewable energy
* Strategic location for regional trade corridors
* Opportunities in agriculture, logistics, solar energy, and infrastructure development
However, the region faces serious challenges:
* Security concerns (insurgency/terrorism)
affecting stability and investment
* Infrastructure deficits, especially in rural areas
* Limited industrial development
* Accessibility constraints in some zones
The North-East presents a contrast of high potential and high risk. While rich in land and strategic positioning, ongoing security and infrastructure challenges continue to impact economic growth and large-scale investment.
Through GIS, remote sensing, and drone technology, critical solutions can be developed for:
* Security and surveillance mapping
* Infrastructure monitoring and planning
* Agricultural land assessment and optimization
* Disaster and environmental monitoring
This creates a pathway for data-driven decision-making, supporting governments, NGOs, and investors in rebuilding and developing the region sustainably.

The requirements are no longer basic โ they are layered, technical, and highly specialized.
Recently, I came across a job opportunity and saw the list of required certifications
Honestly, I paused.
Because itโs no longer enough to say:
You can fly.
You can process.
You can analyze.
You can survey.
You can map.
Now the real question is:
๐พ๐๐ฃ ๐ฎ๐ค๐ช ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ฉ ๐ช๐ฅ?
Today, itโs not just about skills anymore โ itโs about ๐ซ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐๐:
โข UAV Operations Certification
โข Safety Certifications (HSE, Confined Space, HโS)
โข Processing Certifications (LiDAR, RGB workflows)
โข Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing Training
โข GIS / Geomatics Certification
This is the new standard.
But letโs be realโฆ
These certifications are not cheap.
So the real question becomes:
For nowโฆ we stay locked in.
Learning. Improving. Positioning.
Because in this field, growth is not optional โ itโs survival.
