Early this morning, I was watching a very passionate lady on Youtube sell her products but I couldn't concentrate. Oh God! There was a breakdown in communication.

Do you know what they are?

It's called "Affectation" or "deaffectation?" Most people refer to it as the "h factor."

Affectation is adding the sound /h/ where it doesn't exist. For instance, prononouncing egg as hegg, orange as horange, open as hopen, ink as hink, etc.

While, deaffectation is removing the sound /h/ where it exist. Pronouncing hope as ope, art as hart, eat as heat, indigo as hindigo, outside as houtside, etc.

How do I know if the "h factor" affects my communication?

Record yourself while pronouncing words that begin with vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and words that begin with the letter h. Listen carefully or ask someone to assess you.
