Choosing the right school for your child requires more than hearing that “the grass is greener on the other side.”

Sometimes, a parent hears another parent say, “My child is doing so much better in Mathematics now,” and immediately begins to wonder if another school might be better for their own child.

But pause and ask yourself:

How do you know your child would do better there?

How do you know what “better” means in that particular child’s case?

Are you comparing your child’s actual progress with another child’s progress?
Are you looking at their academic foundation?
Their confidence?
Their ability to think independently?
Their behaviour and discipline?
Their communication skills?
Their relationship with teachers?
Their emotional and social development?
Are you looking at the quality of teaching, the learning environment, the curriculum and the individual attention your child receives?

Every child is different. What works wonderfully for one child may not necessarily be what another child needs.

Before moving your child because someone says another school is better, visit the school. Ask questions. Observe. Compare what can actually be compared. Look at your child’s results and progression. Speak with the teachers. Understand what your child needs.

Do not make a major educational decision based solely on someone else’s experience.

The question should not simply be, “Is the grass greener over there?”

The better question is:

“Is that environment genuinely better suited to my child, and what evidence do I have?”

Your child’s education deserves a thoughtful decision.
