The Magic That Happens When You Read to a Child.

There is a moment, if you have ever read to a child; that you will never forget. It is the moment they stop everything. The fidgeting stops. The noise stops. The whole world literally, it seems, stops.

And they lean in. You’ll see their eyes wide. Breath held. Completely and utterly captured.

That moment is not an accident. That moment is science. That moment is love. That moment is the future being quietly shaped.

And here is why reading to children matters more than most of us will ever fully understand.

1. It Builds a Brain Like Nothing Else Can: The brain of a child being read to is not resting. It is racing. Imagining. Connecting. Growing.

2. It Tells a Child, "You Matter": It says I see you. I am here. You are worth my time. Reading is not just an academic exercise. It is an act of love that leaves marks on a child's soul long after the story ends.

3. It Opens Worlds They Have Never Seen: Books do not just teach children about the world. They expand what a child believes the world can be.

4. It Gives Them Words for What They Feel: Reading to children does not just educate them. It heals them. It prepares them. It holds them.

5. It Plants a Love That Lasts a Lifetime: Children who are read to become children who want to read. Children who want to read become adults who never stop learning. Adults who never stop learning become people who change the world.

It all begins with one person. One book. One quiet moment. It begins with you.

So read to the children. Read to them when they are tiny and don't yet understand the words. Read to them when they are older and think they are too cool to care. Read to them in funny voices and serious ones.

Read to them stories that make them laugh until their bellies hurt and stories that make them sit in silence, thinking thoughts too big for their small bodies.

Because every time you open a book for a child, you are opening a door.
And you never know; the story you read today might be the very thing that changes the entire story of their life.

As parents and educators, we sometimes overlook the direct link between a child's hearing health and their academic performance. Here's the truth:

A child with even mild hearing impairment; often caused simply by impacted earwax, can miss up to 50% of classroom instruction. They may seem distracted, slow to respond, or academically behind, when in reality, they simply cannot hear clearly. What looks like a learning challenge may, in many cases, be a hearing challenge.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Umo Akpan (Chairman, Planning Committee), Mr. Kufre-Udeme Thompson (Secretary, Planning Committee), and the entire ENT team at UUTH. Under the guidance of the department's Head, Dr. Mfon Ime Inoh, this team gave their time, skills and hearts to ensure our children receive the care they deserve.

Your visit was not just a medical outreach; it was a powerful reminder of how communities and institutions can come together for the good of our children. We are truly honoured.

What an incredible day it was at Brainy Hive!

Today, in commemoration of the 2026 World Hearing Day, we were privileged to host a remarkable team of ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists (more like an entire team) from the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), who brought their expertise, warmth and commitment directly into our school; completely free of charge.

The genuine smiles on our staff faces as they close for the day, after a full day of work and mind stretching training; they are still radiating energy even after hours of teaching and learning.

They genuinely and obviously love the work they do.

Grateful for the gift of staff who don't just work hard, but grow hard too.

When you intentionally grow your staff through genuine support, love, and care, you inevitably grow your organization.

Guess who benefits more from these their smiles?

The learners!

A report card shows results. Data shows direction.

We track patterns. We identify weak subjects early.

We study performance trends.

When a child drops in Mathematics twice
consecutively.

We don't wait for parents to react; we simply ask the teacher directly responsible. We intervene early.

Excellence is not accidental. It is monitored, measured, and adjusted. Because your child’s progress should never be left to chance.

When your child scores 70 out 100, you should be concerned about the remaining 30. Know which topic or area(s) brought the child down to 70%.

This is how we use data to improve learners’ academic performance!
