THE COMING OF THE FIRST NIGERIA EDUCATION FAIR
By Alison Peters
In these days of politicking and political engineering, it is deeply heartwarming that one could scavenge through and still find articulate Akwa Ibomites with unique and peculiar initiatives towards advancing the operational codes of our societal frameworks and organs, and propelling the state to national and international limelight. For as the State Chief Executive, His Excellency, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio expressed in a recent statement, “if all of us become politicians, then so much would be seriously wrong”. The import of this is that these unique Akwa Ibomites and indeed Nigerians deserve our support, respect and goodwill in their quest and attempt to contribute towards creating advancement, innovation, and rewarding change in our evolving society. Esema is one such Akwa Ibomite, He is the CEO of Jenesses Mega-Tech Limited - a reputable corporate firm which is seen as a pioneer in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Education, that pioneered the introduction of Computer Education Program (CEP) in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, and who are presently the initiators of the “Nigeria Education Fair” -- a Project scheduled to be executed in all the six geopolitical zones of the country. According to Prince Esema, the leading brain behind the Project, the primary aim of the Education Fair is to bring stakeholders, governments, providers and beneficiaries of education services under one roof. This, he surmises, will reduce or eliminate ignorance and dissipation of energy in the dispensation of education. However, charity, they say, must begin from home; hence Jenesses Mega Tech Limited, initiators of the Education Fair are conscientiously perfecting arrangements to guarantee a grand ex*****on of the first phase of the Fair here in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State — within the first half of this year 2012. The Education Fair is therefore seen as timely, as it is expected to create several areas of synergy and leverage towards greater success in the current drive for an embracing education for all Akwa Ibom children and people by the present regime. Yet, executing a Project of this status is no mean feat, as it comes with several challenges and hurdles, which is why Jenesses Mega Tech Limited, initiators of the Project, aside from relying on its experience and expertise, is also reaching out to banks, corporate bodies, governments (local, state and federal), educational institutions, foreign embassies, and other interest groups to sponsor the Fair or partner with it to ensure adequate realization of set goals. Besides, the Education Fair is a Project which is poised to create and generate a varied array of benefits/rewards to a varied and diverse array of stakeholders. A rundown of stakeholders’ benefits/rewards schedule is given here, as follows:
Students:
The conglomeration of stakeholders at the Fair will ensure that students of various categories are instantaneously exposed to educational information, schemes, opportunities and services available in various sectors like banks, educational institutions locally and in the foreign countries; scholarships awarding agencies/bodies; educational support groups/NGO’s; philanthropic individuals; book publishing sector; Information Technology (ICT) world; and therefore reposition themselves to take advantage of these opportunities, without wastage and dissipation of time, energy and resources. There will be Edutainment sessions to teach and thrill pupils and students. Parents/Guardians: In the same vein, parents and guardians will he instantly be exposed to the foregoing schemes, opportunities and services available, to be able to secure same for their wards in schools - with the absence of unnecessary wastage and dissipation of time, energy and resources. Edutainment sessions will equally inform and thrill parents. Schools, Research/Educational Institutions:
Nursery, primary, secondary, vocational, ICT, nursing, long-distance schools/academies; home tutorial services; and tertiary institutions, Including professional bodies will have strategic opportunity to showcase programs and peculiar schemes/services offered by them, while also securing strategic information for growth, repositioning or collaboration/partnerships from other stakeholders - local and foreign. Other benefits here include instant/direct publicity in global scale for schools, thereby promoting Edu-tourism, and international exchange program opportunities. Schools, research and educational institutions will also have the opportunity to enlist in the newly developed web portal, as to further enjoy global exposure and engender Educational Tourism by drawing foreigners to attend schools and undertake training programmes/courses in and outside Nigeria. Each institution that enlists here will have its own webpage highlighting its peculiar activities, curriculum, facilities and other areas of strength and resources. Technical Schools, ICT academies, professional bodies, research and tertiary institutions will benefit from a grand opportunity to showcase innovations and breakthroughs in sciences, craft, arts and management, technical fields, and in other areas recorded by them, as a means towards securing local and global exposure, support, sponsorship and promotion for such innovations and breakthroughs. Banks/insurance/financial and Allied institutions: Banks, microfinance, insurance, money transfer agencies, courier firms, and other financial institutions will have the strategic opportunity to showcase students/educational oriented products and services developed and offered by them to a wide conglomerate of stakeholders, while availing themselves to building critical business alliances and collaborations with other allied concerns. The strategic advantage towards enlarged patronage, exposure, and corporate repositioning/expansion engendered here can never be overemphasized. Government:
The First Education Fair will provide critical opportunity for Government local, state and national levels to secure strategic educationally oriented information and data to facilitate responsive and rewarding planning, policy formulation and ex*****on. It will also be an opportunity for governments to showcase peculiar educational breakthroughs recorded by them for local and global awareness and response, while highlighting their peculiar challenges and areas of difficulty for local and global assistance/intervention. A case comes to mind here. Sometime in 2008, it was reported in some national dailies that some states in the North are in short supply of English, Mathematics and Science/Technical teachers. As the case may be, the Education Fair is expected to provide a veritable platform for governments to bring such challenges to the stakeholders, local and global audience for productive collaborations and possible exchange programs with other governments, qualified job seekers, NGO’s, recruitment agencies, and other interest groups. It is therefore expected that various governments, ministries and bureaus of education, schools boards, and related governmental organs will take steps to support the Fair, while also taking advantage of it. Viewed from this perspective, the Fair is expected to provide a grand forum for the Governments and multilateral agencies to articulate and showcase the intrinsic vision, framework, implementation policies and strategies associated with its Education Scheme, for other states, governments, NGO’s, and international bodies to learn from and also support. Free Education Scheme has come to be an Akwa Ibom brand, deserving of promotion and export. Indeed, incredible frontiers can be reached, if the Fair and its intrinsic opportunities are adequately explored and harnessed. Foreign Missions/Embassies:
It must be noted that the larger part of the Nigerian public do not have access to the various foreign embassies in the country. For this reason, students, parents, guardians, local educational institutions, internal NGO’s and other stakeholders in the education sector, do not have any knowledge of educational programs, institutions, scholarships/educational support schemes, research development/promotion funds, pro-education NGO’s, and other educationally oriented facts regarding these countries. This means that the people do not enlist for, or subscribe to such available opportunities, for lack of knowledge. In the light of this despicable situation therefore, the Education Fair cannot be more timely, rewarding and advantageous to the numerous foreign missions and embassies as a reliable platform to highlight, showcase and promote the educational services prevalent in their different countries, for maximum patronage from Nigerian students, parents and other educational stakeholders. Such areas of patronage and collaboration will definitely include correspondence/long-distance learning services; direct enrolment of Nigerian students in respective foreign colleges/institutions; enlarged, decentralized and deregulated subscription to available foreign scholarships by local students; exchange programs for industrial training/skills acquisition for Nigerian students, and several other Edu-areas which presently remain unknown, unexplored and untapped for the mutual benefit of Nigeria and these foreign countries. Publishers/Authors, Books Distributors And Allied Concerns: Publishers, authors, books distributors and retailers, newspapers and the print media, educational and scientific journals, private library operators, and many other allied concerns will benefit amply from the Fair through instant exposure to a pool of target consumers and services; extensive transaction opportunities for writers/authors to secure publication contacts and contracts; increased revenue base arising from contact with specialized client population, strategic international exposure, and many more intrinsic rewards. Manufactures/Industrial Concerns, ICT Companies:
Manufacturing and industrial firms like Nestle Foods, Champion Breweries, Nigerian Breweries PLC (NBC), Lever Brothers, Exxon Mobil, RUSAL-ALSCON etc. can largely promote their corporate image while enhancing public perception of their firms as responsive corporate citizens — through supporting and sponsoring the Fair, Besides, the Fair provides vast platform and opportunities for product launch, re—launch and enlightenment, which these industrial concerns will be poised to tap into. ICT companies like Visafone, Gin. MTN, Zain, including their distributors/partners will take advantage of conducive conditions at the Fair to create brand/service publicity and loyalty, and effect direct sales of recharge vouchers and other accessories to over 30,000 target populations. Recruitment Agencies:
The Education Fair will provide quantum access to school undergraduates, graduates and the unemployed; and also ample opportunity to exhibit services to thousands of people, while also providing veritable platform for data collation. Travel/Tourism Agencies:
Travel/Tourism agencies like local and international airlines, high—brow hospitality operators, recreational resorts, gymnasiums and other keep fit outfits, and their consultants/subsidiaries will seize the strategic opportunities of the Fair to partner/collaborate with a varied array of exhibitors and stakeholders - as a critical leverage towards reaching new business opportunities and frontiers. Public Education/Enlightenment Groups And NGO’s: Public orientation and education groups, NGO’s and allied bodies like UNICEF, NAPTIP, etc. could rely on the massive forum provided by the Fair to execute target driven enlightenment for students, parents and classified stakeholders, and also carry out mini research works/surveys. Hospitality Business Edutainment Services:
Eateries, fast foods operators like Crunchies, Mr. Biggs, etc; janitorial services providers, including cartooning and amusement providers will benefit from instant clientele availability to exhibit their services and achieve enlarged sales and revenue. Manufacturers/Distributors of School Products:
Providers of school products like children toys, teaching/learning aids and apparatuses, uniforms etc. will, through the Fair, reach thousands of subscribers for expanded sales. The Fair will also provide the right forum for this class of stakeholders to showcase and exhibit recent innovations made in this area, for public awareness and consumption. The Nigeria Education Fair, therefore be seen as an embracing Project set to incorporate a wide array of classified participants and stakeholders, whose diverse capabilities and resources will be synergized and channeled towards achieving the target goals of Edu-Information, Edu-Tainment, and Edu-Tourism. In the Fair, stakeholders and participants will be given a specified time frame to make statements or speeches concerning their peculiar services, resources and agenda. Therefore, the private and public sectors, different tiers of Government, NGOs are called upon to sponsor the Fair and (or) to participate in it, so as to promote and harness the strategic opportunities that will come courtesy of this epoch-making vision. According to Prince Esema Esema, CEO of Jenesses Mega-Tech Limited, arrangements will soon be concluded to institute a preliminary mini briefing/orientation for prospective stakeholders and participants in the Fair. Presently, the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), National Parent Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) have endorsed the Fair, while consultations with the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), banks, foreign missions, and other interest groups are ongoing.
