Educators look into the face of every child under your care.
I saw a child who didn't look happy on his way to school this morning and I was led to interact with him. I asked him why he looked so unhappy and he started crying 😭😭😭 telling me that he didn't eat breakfast. It really broke my heart. This is a child of about 5 or 6 years old going to school without food. Some children really go through a lot. As I looked at him, so many things came to my mind. What will be the reaction of his teacher if he does not cooperate in class? Won't hunger make him to be a bully?
Therefore, it is not wise for a teacher to judge a child's learning abilities on intelligence.
Hunger can have significant negative effects on a child's education. Here are some of the possible effects:
✍️Lack of concentration: Hunger can make it difficult for a child to concentrate on their studies. When a child is hungry, they may constantly think about food, making it challenging to focus on learning activities.
✍️ Reduced cognitive abilities: Hunger can impair cognitive abilities, including memory, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. These abilities are crucial for learning and academic achievement.
✍️Fatigue and low energy: A hungry child may experience fatigue and low energy levels, which can make it harder for them to actively participate in classroom activities and engage with the material being taught.
✍️ Behavioral issues: Hunger can contribute to behavioral issues such as irritability, restlessness, and difficulty controlling emotions. These behaviors can disrupt classroom dynamics and hinder the child's learning process.
✍️Poor academic performance: When a child goes to school hungry, their academic performance is likely to be negatively affected. They may struggle to comprehend and retain information, resulting in lower grades and overall academic achievement.
✍️ Lower attendance and engagement: Hunger may lead to absenteeism and truancy as the child may find it challenging to attend school regularly. Additionally, hunger can reduce their motivation to actively participate in class discussions or complete homework assignments.
✍️ Stunted physical and mental development: Insufficient nutrition due to hunger can hamper a child's overall growth and development, including their brain development, which is crucial for academic success.
Addressing hunger and ensuring that children have access to nutritious meals is essential to counteracting these effects and promoting optimal educational outcomes for all children. If you have such a child in your class and you have money, please buy him or her food and send communication to the parents, encouraging them to feed the child before sending him or her to school no matter how little.
Don't joke with the faces of children around you so that you don't make a broken 💔 child 🚸 completely shattered.
