Dedicated To All The Girl Child

With the rapid increase in technology, human civilization has risen to its highest apex. This has broadened human understanding, enabling us to see things from new perspectives.

With the advent of this civilization, importance has been placed on all genders. The girl child has been given the same opportunities as the boy child, eradicating the old traditional belief that girls are to be heard and not seen.

Today, the gender inequality line has been broken, offering girls a voice in a once male-dominated society. It's not news that women now hold high political offices and contribute positively to our functional society and homes.

The adage that says, 'what a man can do, a woman can do better,' is no lie, as women have taken on remarkable tasks. The girl child has proven beyond reasonable doubt that she is and will continue to be a significant part of society building.

Today, I join thousands across the globe in celebrating every single girl child who hasn't conformed to worldly standards but has chosen to be an agent of positive change.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child.

Educate the girl child and you educate the world”.
As the world celebrates the beauty and strength of the girl child, we join in celebrating with them, as we celebrate all our beautiful female teachers, who have not been selfish with their knowledge, but have decided to share it with this beautiful kids, making sure that they find themselves and discover their purpose.

Happy International Day Of The Girl Child.

Linguistic humor, The English lesson

We'll begin with box, and the plural is boxes;
But the plural of ox should be oxen, not oxes.
Then one fowl is goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.

You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If the plural of man is always called men,
Why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?

The cow in the plural may be cows or kine,
But the plural of vow is vows, not vine.
I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
If I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth, and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?

If the singular is this and the plural is these,
Why shouldn't the plural of kiss be named kese?
Then one may be that, and three may be those,
Yet the plural of hat would never be hose;
We speak of a brother, and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.

The masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
But imagine the feminine she, shis, and shim!
So our English, I think, you all will agree,
Is the craziest language you ever did see.
I take it you already know
Of tough and bough and cough and dough?
Others may stumble, but not you,
On hiccough, thorough, slough, and through?

Well done! And now you wish, perhaps
To learn of less familiar traps?
Beware of heard, a dreadful word,
That looks like beard and sounds like bird.
And dead; it's said like bed, not bead;
For goodness sake, don't call it deed!

Watch out for meat and great and threat;
They rhyme with suite and straight and debt.
A moth is not a moth in mother,
Nor both in bother, broth in brother.
And here is not a match for there,
Or dear and fear for bear and pear.

And then there's dose and rose and lose,
Just look them up, and goose and choose.
And cork and work and card and ward,
And font and front and word and sword.

And do and go, then thwart and cart.
Come, come, I've hardly made a start.
A dreadful language? Why, man alive,
I'd learned to talk it when I was five,
And yet to write it, the more I tried,
I hadn't learned it at fifty-five!

Teachers, who educate children, deserve more honour than parents, who merely gave them birth; for the latter provided mere life, while the former ensure a good life.
Aristotle.

It is no lie that the most tasking and stressing job is found in the teaching sector. Following up a child, ensuring that him or her is mentally fit for the society is and will always be one of the most tedious job ever.

It is on this note, that we at Teachers Beyond Boarders, join the entire world today to celebrate our teachers and to all that has in one way or another helped us positively to be where we are today.

Happy World's Teacher's Day.

Happy Birthday Teacher Jacob Unyime

It's been a privilege having you in the team as our Maths teacher. Your consistency and dedication to teaching children basic mathematics using native language and being able to use common objects around to teach are some of the most exceptional skills you possess as a teacher. Not minding how tedious the life of a medical student is, you flout it and make sure you're always there for the children. We celebrate your birthday today. On behalf of Teachers Beyond Borders we wish you a happy birthday.

No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks according to James Allen. We are grateful to God for safe journey and to our supporters who made our mission possible. It was a few days of intense and impactful learning and teaching. This is the analysis of our days of staying in the island of Ikot Akpan Udo in Ikot Abasi.

Orientation and Assessment Test.

On our first day, 13th December, we had our first orientation and assessment exercise. The children were told about Teachers Beyond Borders, who they are and what they do.

We also tried to see how much they understand English to determine which language to use and teach them. Our findings reveal that 70% of the children speak and understand their native dialects very well more than the English Language.

At that end, we knew we'd have to adjust and teach in Ibibio. Maths, ICT practicals, sciences and even English as well as social habits must be taught in Ibibio since their dialect is almost like the Ibibio dialect.

There is a primary school, well-constructed, but due to the distance which is about 50km from the school to the mainland, teachers posted rarely come and the children sit on the floor to learn. There are no seats and teachers especially Mathematics teachers but the children are very sound in Mathematics, they picked up quite fast.

The people live in thatch houses mostly and as a border island, it has suffered it own phase of inter-communal war which left the community in shambles. There is no light, they drink from the stagnant well, of which the pictures are attached in the post, there is no hospital, or medical centre, and the people are majorly farmers and fishermen. There is no network too. The best thing we can do to the community is to provide the school with seats and teachers and drill a borehole water for the people.

Our stay in the community had witnessed considerable pains and we slept on the floor on, exposed to mosquito and exposed to too much cold. You expect enough of cold surely in an island. But in all, the first day was successful.

The people were so happy and ready to release their children, some of them thought we were corp members. They were generous and hospitable to us. But they surely couldn't give what they don't have, mattress.

We wish to thank all our supporters and donors especially, Mr. Ajiroba Oladipupo Daniel , Dr. Owumi Salt David , Barr. Chris Okorie Mr. John Mfon John , Mr. Endiong John , Mr. Ekemini Akaninyene Effiong and all those we can't
