BENUE STATE
Benue state was created on February 3,1976 from the former Benue Plateau State by the then regime of General Murtala Mohammed . The capital is Makurdi . The state derives its name from River Benue
The present day new Benue state after a portion was carved out to create Kogi State in August 1991,has 23 Local Governments Areas,11 federal constituencies and 3 senatorial districts. The state shares boundaries with six states namely : Nassarawa to the North,Taraba to the east, Cross River,Ebonyi and Enugu to the South and Kogi to the West.The current governor is Hyacinth Alia . ABIA STATE
Abia is an acronym formed from the initial letters of 4 groups of people namely :
ABA
BENDE
ISUIKWUATO
AFIKPO
The state has 8 federal constituencies, 17 Local Governments and 3 senatorial districts.The 4 groups constitute the major group in the state.Abia was carved out from Imo state on the 27 August 1991 by the then federal military government of General Ibrahim Babangida.
In October, 1996, during the creation of six more states by General Sani Abacha,4 local governments areas namely : oniocha,Ohaozara,Afipko North and Afipko South which occupy the Northeastern corner of the state were transferred to the newly created Ebonyi state. Abia State shares common boundries to the North with Ebonyi state, to the South and south West with Rivers State and to the east and south east with Cross River and Akwa Ibom States,to the West with Imo State and to the North West is Anambra State,The state capital is Umuahia and the current governor is Alex Otti.

Akwa Ibom State was created on the 23rd of September, 1987, from Cross River State by the then military head of states Gen. Ibrahim Baba gida. The state has 31 Local Government Areas, with Uyo as the capital, 26 state constituencies,10 federal constituencies and 3 SENATORIAL DISTRICTS.
