ABSTRACT: AN IMPERATIVE CONSTITUENT OF A RESEARCH PAPER.
An abstract is a short summary of a longer work (such as a dissertation or research paper). The abstract concisely reports the aims and outcomes of your research so that readers know exactly what the paper is about.
Write the abstract at the very end, when you’ve completed the rest of the text. There are four things you need to include:
Your research problem and objectives
Your methods
Your key results or arguments
Your conclusion
An abstract is usually around 150–300 words, but there’s often a strict word limit, so make sure to check the requirements of the university or journal.

Curriculum Vitae (CV).
🔶What is a CV?
🔸A CV is an official document that contains the profile, educational and career background of a person.
🔸In our part of the world, CV and a résumé means the same thing but in other climes, they mean different things entirely. Some of us have been submitting CVs like forever and yet we don't get interview invites.
🔸The problem is that your CV is not passing what is known as The 30 seconds Test. The 30 seconds test simply means that an employer or interviewer will decide if he's going to employ you or not within 30 seconds of perusing your CV.
🔸The Do's and Don’ts of CV
We call it packaging.
🔶THE DO’S
🔸Ensure the address on your CV is the same with the location of the job. It will make interviewers consider you faster. e.g, if the job is in Lagos, apply with a Lagos address. If you don't stay in the same location, look for someone you know that use same location.
🔸Accurately summarize the software and technologies that you’re familiar with, noting proficiency level and how long you have used each one. Again, refer to the job listing to decide which programs are vital to include.
🔸Under personal data or profile. Some entities like date of birth, state, local government and nationality are not compulsory. As a matter of fact, if the age they need doesn't favour you, just take off your date of birth. Keep the interviewer in doubt. Rather sell your skills.
🔸Under educational background and dates, simply write your school, your course of study and then the year you graduated. Take off the year you got admission. Some people started school in 2005 and graduated in 2012 for a 4-year course. It might not be their fault but employers wouldn't take it that way since you're not there to defend it. So I repeat, write out only graduation year.
🔸Tailor the document for each position you apply for by highlighting your qualifications and expertise that match the specific job requirements. Employers often use screening software that scans documents for particular keywords, so follow the job listing's lead on phrasing.
🔸Typos and mistakes tell the hiring manager you are not detail-oriented. Ask a few friends or trusted colleagues to have a look at your resume. Fresh eyes are always more likely to catch errors.
🔸If you're going full-steam-ahead on your job search, give your key contacts a heads up that they may be getting calls or emails about you. Send them your most recent resume so they're up-to-date on your current accomplishments and have all the facts in front of them.
🔸Even if you're not job-hunting, update your resume every time you accept a new job or complete a significant project. Keeping your job application materials updated regularly will make it seem like less of a burden.
🔶THE DON’TS
🔸Never start your CV with "Curriculum Vitae". Start with your name boldly written with a larger font.
🔸Don't use childish email address. Use an email address with your name. Don't use email address such as [email protected]. It says a lot about your maturity and professionalism. You can use [email protected] or [email protected]. If the name is already taken, add some numbers, e.g [email protected].
🔸Even one fabrication can be grounds for termination. Stay honest in all of your job application materials.
🔸Some employers might ask about your reasons for leaving your current position at the interview — and you should be ready to talk about why you left — but you don't need to include that information in your resume.
🔸Don't put personal information, such as your photo, height, Social Security number, marital status or religious affiliation, in your resume. You don't want to expose yourself to conscious and unconscious bias on the part of the hiring manager.
🔸Trying to remember the exact day you started a job 15 years ago is difficult, to say the least. Using the month and year you started and left each position are totally sufficient.
🔸Stick to a clean, easy-to-read format. Catch a recruiter's eye with your experience, not with wacky fonts, colors or designs.
It's always better to use your personal email address and phone number rather than your professional contact details, even if your current boss is aware of your intent to leave.
🔸Do not include your CGPA, the only exception to this is if you're still in college or have just graduated, or if the job posting asks you to include that information.
🔸If the ad requests that applicants reply with a salary range, state it in the cover letter. Otherwise, wait until later interviews to discuss money.
🔸To be gainfully employed in that dream job, a well polished resume is the foundation of your job search. I tell you most solemnly, you’ll need to develop a sound and winning strategy.
