This prestigious ranking, based on Scopus data (Elsevier), evaluates scientists' research impact, citations, and productivity. Dr. Egbueri's consistent excellence has earned him this recognition for the fourth consecutive year (2021-2024), placing COOU on the global map. Historic Milestone as Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University's Department of Religion and Human Relations Celebrates First-Ever Ph.D. Graduates

On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, the Department of Religion and Human Relations at the Faculty of Arts, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, marked a significant milestone by conferring Ph.D. degrees upon its inaugural graduates. This occasion is particularly noteworthy as it signifies the department's pioneering venture into postgraduate programs.

D**e Chikwuemeka Justin and Ibe Michael Chukwuebuka emerged as the distinguished candidates who successfully defended their Ph.D. theses. Under the scrutiny of the external examiner, Rev. Fr. Prof. B.A.C Obiefuna, and guided by the leadership of the Head of Department, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Ezeogamba, the candidates delved into critical topics.

D**e Chikwuemeka Justin's dissertation explored the Osu Caste System in Igboland through the lens of Christian social teaching and Human Rights. Simultaneously, Ibe Michael Chukwuebuka's research scrutinized poverty in Nigeria (2000-2021) within the framework of human rights discourse and Christian social teaching.

In an exclusive conversation with COOUNEWS, the department expressed gratitude to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr , acknowledging her role in providing a conducive environment and her commitment to propelling the university forward. OJUKWU UNIVERSITY'S ACTING VICE CHANCELLOR GRACES UNIZIK'S 17TH CONVOCATION

Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, graced the 17th Convocation Ceremony of Nnamdi Azikiwe University on Friday being December 8th, 2023.

During the event, she extended congratulations to Prof. Charles Esimone, Nnamdi Azikiwe University's Vice Chancellor, commending him for his inspirational leadership. Prof. Omenugha urged him to continue his commendable efforts, emphasizing the university's rich tradition of hard work, societal contributions, sacrifices, focus, and healthy competition.

In an interview with COOUNEWS, Prof. Omenugha highlighted the impressive track record of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in producing outstanding individuals. She praised the culture of excellence fostered by creative Lecturers, Deans, and Vice Chancellors, including Prof. Esimone, who has been a strong supporter. In her words;

"...we have learnt the culture of hard work, we have learnt the culture of giving back to the society, we have learnt the culture of making sacrifices, we have actually learnt the culture of being keeping eyes on the ball and that culture of healthy competition between Faculties and Departments whereby they try to surpass each other. We have very creative lecturers and creative deans, and we have also had Vice Chancellors who have done so well and including our own Vice Chancellor, Prof. Esimone, who has been a pillar of support to me in particular and everything I have tried doing, he has supported me so well. For him, It is a testimony that all the things that we are doing in UNIZIK is actually paying off..."

She reiterated her commitment to driving positive change at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, expressing passion for the role and quoting Mother Theresa's philosophy of starting change at an individual level.

16th Seminar/Induction Exercise of the Year 1 students of Accounting Students.

On the 7th of July, 2023, the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus held their 16th Seminar and induction for the year 1 students of the department under the leadership of Comr. Nkurum Freedom.

Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Emeka Obiorah reminded the students to be accountable in everything they do. He demanded that students should show the lecturers love by attending their lectures so that they can be impacted with knowledge and there is no need to brew hate on the lecturers when they are being corrected. He also talked about indecent dressing, fighting and stealing which must be prohibited and cannot be tolerated.

Dr. Obiorah also brought to their notice that the University Community has facilities that would help them grow in all aspects of life and it is their duty to make use of it judiciously and as well, remain accountable to themselves, family and the society so that at the end of the day, they would graduate in flying colours.

The Head of the Department, Dr. T. N Ofor before taking the students on the oath-taking/inducting them into the Department properly, let them know that their Destiny is in their hands. She professed the fact that it is a privilege for them to be admitted into the department. She clearly stated that with the students being serious and zealous with their studies, avoiding cultism, having a personal reading time table, avoiding examination malpractice and abiding by the rules of the University Community, they will graduate with a first class because it is attainable. For her, the students will enjoy the department because the lecturers too, have the students interest at heart.

The peak of the event were the oath-taking, presenting awards by Prof. Agugbata and tutorials too.

SUCCESSFUL EXTERNAL DEFENCE OF PH.D. IN MATHEMATICS

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University today, 8th June 2023 recorded her first External Defence of Ph.D. in Mathematics.

Candidates include; Dr. Ifeanyi Ezenekwe and Dr. Nelson Nsiegbe of the Department of Mathematics.

Dr Ezenekwe worked on the Actuarial Modelling of Social Insecurity in Nigeria between 2012 and 2021 while Dr. Nsiegbe dealt with the Undetermined Parameter Method: A Condensation-Based Application of Determinants for Solving a System of Linear Equations.

Congratulations to the two pioneers.

PROF. GREG NWAKOBY COMMISSIONS GENERAL STUDIES BUILDING

The Vice Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Anambra State has commissioned the General Studies building. This building which started years back was concluded and this was inspired by the Vice Chancellor's goal of improving the infrastructural outlook of the University.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Greg Nwakoby congratulated the director of the division of General studies Prof. Innocent Ngangah who resumed office in December, 2021 for the befitting building.

Criminology Department Holds Orientation For Fresh Students

The Department of Criminology and Security Studies of Chukwumeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus, has held an orientation programme for its newly admitted students for 2022/2023 Academic Session.

The orientation programme which was held on Wednesday, 26th April, 2023, at Ben Nwazojie (SAN) Auditorium, acquainted the students with familiarity of the ethics and workings of the Department, Criminology and Security Studies.

Welcoming the fresh students, the Head of the Department, Rev. Sr. Dr. Ngozi Udoye, noted that the Department which is one of the best in the university has lecturers to train them to compete favourably with other students in other institutions.

Speaking to the students on what is required of them to succeed in the university, Dr. Ngozi Udoye, who was the former Dean of Students Affairs of the University, also informed the students that they will be placed in high-profile professional training both in skills and academics.

On her own part, the Exam Officer of the Department, Mrs. Chinwe Areh, highlighted on the need for the new students to take their studies seriously, informing them that both the university and faculty have zero-tolerance for Examination Malpractice.

Mrs. Areh, who also doubles as the Staff Adviser of the Student Association Body of the Department, advised the students to obey constituted authorities and study diligently in order to make the Department proud, noting that the Department only graduates students who are found worthy in both learning and character.

Speaking differently, the Student Union Government (SUG) Caretaker Committee Chairman, Comr. Okoye Okpala and FOSSSA President, Comr. Victor Mbagwu encouraged the new students to abide by the rules and regulations of the university, and shun all acts of indiscipline, advising them to participate actively in the numerous activities on campus.

Some of the resources persons who spoke, Okpala Adachukwu, Ifechukwu Okoli, Jerry Udenwagu, and Precious Uduchukwu, who are all students of the Department, used their personal experiences to expose the freshers on how they can have excellent performance in their academics.

In his closing remarks, the President National Association of Criminology and Security students (Nacriss), Brown-Ofoeme Ebubechukwu promised that Nacriss is committed in protecting their rights and improving their welfare, while wishing them success in their upcoming examination.
