COOU SCHOLARS PRESENT GROUNDBREAKING CYBER RESILIENCE MODEL AT EUROPEAN CONFERENCE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

The global academic community recently turned its attention to the 25th European Conference on Cyber Warfare and Security (ECCWS 2026), where scholars from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) showcased a research-driven solution designed to strengthen the cyber resilience of family-owned businesses.

The international conference, hosted by the School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham, Jubilee Campus, Nottingham, United Kingdom, held from June 29–30, 2026, brought together leading researchers, cybersecurity experts, policymakers and industry professionals from across the world to deliberate on emerging trends, challenges and practical solutions in cybersecurity and information security.

One of the major highlights of the conference was the presentation of a groundbreaking research paper titled "Integrating Cybersecurity Risk Management and Business Continuity of Family-Owned Businesses in Anambra State: A Conceptual Model."

The study was jointly authored by Dr. Gloria Chinwe Obananya and Dr. Chidimma Odira Okeke of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), alongside Dr. Paschal Anosike of the University of the West of England, United Kingdom.

The research introduced the Cyber Resilience Integration Model (CRIM), a forward-looking framework developed to help family-owned Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) build stronger resilience against evolving cyber threats while ensuring business continuity in an increasingly digital economy.

According to the researchers, the Cyber Resilience Integration Model systematically integrates cybersecurity risk management practices with business continuity planning, while positioning organizational leadership and ICT awareness as critical drivers of effective cyber resilience. The framework further incorporates AI-enabled predictive monitoring systems and organizational agility to facilitate real-time, scalable cybersecurity responses capable of mitigating cyber vulnerabilities before they escalate into operational disruptions.

Beyond strengthening digital security, the model provides a practical, context-sensitive roadmap for family-owned businesses to enhance operational resilience, improve recovery capabilities following cyber incidents, and sustain long-term competitiveness in today's technology-driven business environment.

The research presentation also reflects the growing commitment of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University to producing knowledge that transcends the classroom and delivers practical solutions to contemporary societal and economic challenges. In line with the Viability agenda, one of the 3Vs championed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the study demonstrates how cutting-edge academic research can be translated into practical frameworks that support business sustainability, economic resilience and technological advancement. By offering a model capable of addressing real-world cybersecurity concerns facing family-owned enterprises, the research exemplifies the University's drive towards producing impactful scholarship that contributes directly to national development.

The presentation attracted considerable interest from participants, reflecting the growing global recognition of the need for practical and adaptable cybersecurity frameworks tailored to the realities of emerging economies and family-owned enterprises.

The successful presentation at ECCWS 2026 reinforces University's growing reputation as a centre of academic excellence, impactful research and international collaboration. It also demonstrates the institution's commitment to generating knowledge that not only advances global scholarship but also delivers sustainable solutions to pressing local and global challenges, in keeping with the University's vision of excellence, relevance and viability.

PRESS RELEASE

DISMISSAL OF LECTURERS OVER SEXUAL HARASSMENT: COOU IS DETERMINED TO UPHOLD THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF MORAL ETHICS

Tuesday, June 16, 2026

We have observed with keen attention the reactions that have followed the news of the dismissal of some academic staff of the University, particularly in connection with issues of sexual harassment, intimidation, extortion, and related misconduct.

While we commend Members of the Alumni for speaking out at this time but, we must avoid "the tale wagging the dog" approach as it is also important we understand that Management cannot work with Media trials. What we encourage is that people articulate their facts and write directly to the Vice-Chancellor. A dedicated email and Phone number: [email protected] and 08160847264, respectively, has been provided to help anyone reach out to the University Management.

As an institution, we hold our “3Vs” - Values, Viability, and Visibility - close to heart. Accordingly, University Management and Governing Council are working assiduously to ensure that the highest standards of moral ethics are entrenched in our institution. This commitment has been demonstrated by recent developments, and the administration, led by Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, will not spare anyone found guilty of such allegations.

Nevertheless, we urge students to obtain the new Students’ Regulation Handbook and familiarize themselves with the proper channels for communicating grievances, as outlined in the Handbook. The misuse of social media in any form is strongly prohibited.

Currently, petitions against certain Lecturers are before the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, and we trust that the Committee’s report will provide the necessary guidance on the next steps. Social media should not be used as a platform for calling out members of staff.

Justice was served in the recent cases because the victims were bold enough to come forward with their official complaints, and today we see the outcome. We encourage our students to do the same. Notices containing contact numbers for submitting complaints have been circulated.

Management and Council are determined to ensure that no matter or complaint will be swept under the carpet, regardless of who is involved.

For now, we urge Students, Alumni, Friends, Families, and Bloggers to utilize the official communication channels, as the ongoing social media trial do not tell good of our collective efforts to building a NOW UNIVERISTY AND OF THE FUTURE!

Thanks.

Public Relations Officer, COOU

Breaking: Osegbue, Nwabachili, three others dismissed, 13 promoted by the Council of Ojukwu Varsity

The Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, during its inaugural meeting on Friday, approved the immediate dismissal of at least five academic staff members of the university. The meeting, which was chaired by the University’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Professor Peter Onwualu, approved the dismissal of the staff following the report of a disciplinary committee set up to look into the various cases of misconduct against the staff members, which was brought before the Council for consideration.

Those whose sack was approved by the university council include Professor Chike Osegbue, of the Department of Political Science, who was found to have abandoned his duties as an academic staff member of the university, without any excuse or justification, our source said. In the Faculty of Law, Professors C. C. Nwabachili and Ifeoma Kakulu were sacked over cases of gross misconduct. Meanwhile, Dr. I. H. Iheukwumere and Mr. Emeka Nwabunnia, of the Department of Microbiology, Uli Campus, were dismissed over cases of sexual harassment and intimidation.

With this action, the University Council has set a new mark of conduct and redirected focus to commitment to value for staff, especially academic staff members of the university, who the Council said are expected to uphold the highest level of professional and ethical conduct as role models.

During the meeting, which was attended by all members of the University Council who were inaugurated yesterday by the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, and charged to deliver nothing but excellence, they jointly submitted that Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University must set the pace in learning, teaching, and training quality graduates with the requisite skill set that meets the challenges of the present time. The Council further committed to upholding the virtues of integrity, discipline, and honest commitment to academic values.

Meanwhile, the Council also approved the promotion of at least 13 Readers to full professorship. Those promoted include Dr. Uju Susan Muogbo of the Department of Entrepreneurship, Dr. Nonso Mbah of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Basil Agoha of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Ikechukwu Gbasouzor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Agary Nwokoye of the Department of Political Science, Dr. Ikechukwu Asika of the Department of English, Dr. Nkiru Chude, Dr. Kennedy Onwuama, Dr. Chinyerem Nwachukwu, Dr. Susan Oguejiofor, Dr. Anthonia Okoye, Dr. Choice Okaforcha, and Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Dim.

The Chairman of Council, Professor Peter Onwualu, while extending the Council’s congratulations to the new professors, also charged them to continue to hold the academic banner to the highest standards.
