I just remembered my boarding school days 😂
I was sitting close to the window facing the kitchen… minding my business oo.
One chef added salt to jollof rice.
Few minutes later, another one came again with salt—ready to add to the same pot of jollof rice 😳
At this point_ I forgot I was inside class and I shouted:
“Salt don already enter the Jollof rice ooo!” 😭😂
Next thing… the whole class turn look me. Even our Economics teacher shock 😩
Oga vex, send me go kneel down… still facing the same kitchen 🤦‍♂️

Na there I no say kaki no be leather😆🤣

JOHNSON
(Ikpamfum)

Johnson came home last night,
Went to sleep on his matrimonial bed
And never woke up-
No, he did not wake up.

He did not mind to fly high,
Go against this wind
And try to touch the sky.
He was damn unlucky,
Another fly on the wall,
Not willing to play ball.
As crass impunity filled the air,
Public reactions became clear.

He descended into the jungle,
A horror place of the mysterious
And the unseen.
There was a whisper through the air,
He felt a presence,
This driven man was determined
To tackle the forces of the unknown.
This was pure destiny,
The kind you cannot run away from.

We saw his subtle soul-
And saw through your rugged exterior.
He would now transcend from obscurity
Into legend:
Though countless widows
And orphans will be left behind.
Johnson woke up with a chest pain,
He complained-
He never complained.
They sent him home,
To continue working to his bone.

In the solitary confinement of his room,
He refused to succumb to despair,
His life was a quest to always stand by
His principles and beliefs.

CATFISH RIVER
(The fish no more bites)

You were the reason
For our sumptuous feasts
Over the years.
Fish, crayfish, periwinkles, oysters, tortoise and reptiles:
Iyak, ndek obu, nkop, ikut inyang ye utai,
Were provided from the sanctuary of our goddess.
You were our music
That was to play eternally.

The message that I receive
Is that I perceive,
The be***al fumes
Caused by the toxic perfumes,
Which they have used to mummify us.
There is no more laughter in the creeks,
The fish no more bites,
Which has worsened our plight.
Our children are weak
And in retreat.
The cool evening breezes,
Delivers only our lives' debris,
No more caress the shores,
Like a gentle comforting hand.
The sky above you
Has become a scab,
Desolate:
A festering sore
That has refused to heal.

As foam clings to the crest of the wave,
We hope on you:
To purify our land
And like the Phoenix,
Rise from your ashes and live.
We are entwined like Siamese twins,
Made for each other.
Arise and heed our cries
Over this disgrace
And wanton destruction of our space.

You were the reason
For our sumptuous feasts
Over the years.
Fish, crayfish, periwinkles, oysters, tortoise and reptiles:
Iyak, ndek obu, nkop, mfi, ikut inyang ye utai,
Were provided from the sanctuary of our goddess.
You were our music
That was to play eternally.

THE CLOTHES WILL COME OFF

Restless imagination and
Endless stream of ideas
Set me to soar far beyond the expected
And the predictable.
I was just admiring your agility,
Appreciating the figurate motion
That defined your personality,
Throughout the solo performance.

Fill my heart with songs
Let me sing forever more,
I will always worship and adore you
Forever more.
Don’t spend too much time
Staring at yourself in a mirror.
The paper is still blank
With no signatures.

The clothes will come off
Into a big sweaty pile.
The clothes would always come off.
Those who wet their beds
Should never quarrel with the washerman.

When time has flown,
There will be the growing despair
With the approach of old age,
Another escape to be a sage.
An opportunity born from dejection.
