πŸ”₯ LEADERSHIP β€’ REPRESENTATION β€’ NETWORKING β€’ IMPACT πŸ’ŠπŸ€

Today was another remarkable day of learning, leadership, and professional engagement.

I had the privilege of attending the One-Day Leadership Training for All Executives and Committee Heads, where I proudly served as a representative of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Young Pharmacists Group (PSN-YPG), Kwara State Branch, in my capacity as a PSN-YPG IS Executive.

The training provided an excellent platform to strengthen leadership capacity, exchange ideas, and gain valuable insights into effective professional service and organizational leadership.

Beyond the training, I also had the opportunity to meet and engage with the CEOs of Binuseri Pharmacy and Ason Pharmacy, creating valuable opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and professional relationship building.

For me, leadership is not just about holding a titleβ€”it is about showing up, representing with purpose, learning continuously, building connections, and creating impact.

Proud to represent PSN-YPG Kwara Branch. πŸ’ŠπŸ‡³πŸ‡¬

BUILDING LEADERS, STRENGTHENING PHARMACY, SHAPING THE FUTURE! πŸ’Šβœ¨

Today, I had the privilege of joining Ohunene F. Akande, State Officer, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Kwara State Office, during a One-Day Leadership Training for Executives and Committee Heads.

Representing the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria – Young Pharmacists Group (PSN-YPG), Kwara State Branch, as a member of the PSN-YPG State Executive, the training provided an important opportunity to learn, reflect, network, and strengthen our leadership capacity.

Leadership is not merely about holding a positionβ€”it is about responsibility, service, accountability, teamwork, and creating meaningful impact.

As young pharmacists, we must continue to equip ourselves with the knowledge, skills, and character required to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the pharmacy profession and healthcare system.

Today’s training is another step towards becoming better leaders, better professionals, and better servants to our profession and society. πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬πŸ’Š

A big thank you to everyone who made this leadership development opportunity possible.

The future of pharmacy is being built today. And we are part of it! πŸš€

PSN urges FG to strengthen drug regulation, distribution system

By Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Kwara State Branch, has urged the Federal Government to strengthen the regulation and distribution of medicines across the country to protect Nigerians from drug abuse, irrational drug use and substandard medicines.

The newly elected Chairman of the PSN in the state, Pharm. Munirat Kikelomo Bello, made the call during an interview in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital where she outlined her priorities and spoke on challenges confronting pharmaceutical practice in Nigeria.

Bello, who is the first female pharmacist to lead the PSN in Kwara State, described the country’s drug distribution system as a major concern requiring urgent attention.

She said existing national guidelines on drug distribution needed to be effectively implemented to ensure that medicines reached Nigerians through regulated channels.

β€œWe have a very serious, chaotic drug distribution in Nigeria. In fact, I will call it a national emergency,” she said.

According to her, the availability of medicines through unlicensed outlets exposes Nigerians to risks associated with inappropriate medication, drug abuse and unsafe treatment.

She said her administration would collaborate with relevant government agencies, including the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Ministry of Health and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), to promote effective regulation of the pharmaceutical sector.

The PSN chairman also called for stronger collaboration between professional and enforcement agencies in tackling drug abuse.

She specifically advocated closer cooperation between the PSN and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), saying a joint approach could help address both the supply and misuse of drugs.

β€œWe are looking to strengthen our collaboration to provide access to the recovery team. We need to tackle it from the root, and that is where the drug distribution guidelines come in,” she said.

Bello also urged Nigerians to obtain medicines from licensed pharmacies rather than open markets and unlicensed drug sellers.

She said pharmacists had an important role in ensuring that medicines were used appropriately and safely, adding that public education would form part of her administration’s activities.

She disclosed that the PSN would increase its media engagements to educate Nigerians on medication safety, rational drug use and the dangers of drug abuse.

The pharmacist further called for improved collaboration between pharmacists and medical doctors, saying unnecessary professional rivalry should not be allowed to affect patient care.

β€œThe objective of everyone in the healthcare sector is the patient,” she said, stressing that healthcare professionals should respect their respective roles and responsibilities.

According to her, doctors should focus on diagnosis while pharmacists play their professional role in reviewing prescriptions, dispensing medicines and counselling patients on their appropriate use.

Bello also linked the fight against drug abuse to broader social and economic challenges, saying government, families, schools, religious institutions and other stakeholders all had roles to play in addressing the problem.

She said sustained public awareness, effective regulation and stronger enforcement were necessary to reduce the misuse of medicines and other drugs.

On the welfare of pharmacists, the PSN chairman said she would prioritise the professional well-being of members across hospitals, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical industries, academia and medicine distribution.

She said creating an enabling environment for pharmacists would ultimately contribute to better healthcare delivery to Nigerians.

β€œEvery pharmacist is well supported in terms of their welfare so that they can excel in delivering their best in their place of work. By extension, that will now translate to better healthcare for the people,” she said.

A GREAT START TO A NEW ERA! πŸ₯‚πŸ’Š

The PSN Chairman, alongside other members of the Executive Council, paid a courtesy call on our dear father and distinguished pharmacist, Prof. OLURINOLA, FPSN.

It was a remarkable opportunity to seek his wisdom, guidance, and fatherly support as we begin this new chapter of leadership.

Indeed, what a good start! πŸ™ŒπŸ½

May this administration continue to benefit from the wealth of experience of our respected leaders, while working together to advance the pharmacy profession and strengthen the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.

Together, with unity, wisdom and purposeful leadership, we move forward.
