PRODUCTION OF ROOM FRESHENER, SOAP, AND CAR WASH BY IQRAA ACADEMY CHEMICAL SOCIETY
The Chemistry Department of Iqraa Academy, through its Chemical Society, has successfully organized a hands-on practical activity on the production of room freshener, washing soap, and car wash solution. This initiative followed the completion of the topic “Chemical Industry” in the students’ scheme of work.
The exercise aimed at translating theoretical knowledge into practical experience, exposing students to the industrial and commercial applications of chemistry. Under the guidance of their teachers, students actively participated in the formulation, mixing, and packaging processes of the products.
This activity is part of the Academy’s broader commitment to skill-oriented and competency-based learning, designed to promote self-reliance, creativity, and entrepreneurship among students. The successful outcome of the production exercise reflects the school’s dedication to making science education both practical and impactful.

Field Trip Report: Visit to Abban Muhsin Farm

1. Introduction:
On Wednesday, 6th November 2024, SS1 and SS2 students of Iqraa Academy Sokoto embarked on an educational field trip to Abban Muhsin Farms, located in Galadanci Village, off Maruda Road. The primary aim of the trip was to expose students to practical aspects of Animal Husbandry, particularly in cattle rearing for beef and dairy production, and poultry farming for eggs and meat production. The visit aligned with the Animal Husbandry Curriculum, providing a hands-on learning experience that reinforced classroom concepts.
2. Overview of Abban Muhsin Farm:
Abban Muhsin Farms is a well-established agricultural facility focusing on livestock farming and the production of dairy and poultry products. The farm features a diverse range of operations, including cattle rearing, beef production, dairy farming, and poultry farming. The farm's methods showcase sustainable practices and highlight the importance of livestock in food production and local economy.
3. Activities and Learning Experiences
1. Cattle Rearing and Beef Production: The students were introduced to the cattle rearing section of the farm, where they learned about the various breeds of cattle raised at Abban Muhsin Farm. The Managing Director of the farm explained the process of raising cattle for both milk and beef, detailing feeding routines, health care, and disease prevention. Students observed the facilities for housing and feeding cattle and learned about the essential practices that ensure the health and productivity of the livestock.
2. Dairy Farming: In the dairy farming section, students observed how milk is collected, stored, and processed. They learned about the milking process, hygienic practices necessary for high-quality milk production, and the storage facilities used to keep the milk fresh. The M.D discussed the importance of nutrition for dairy cows and how it affects milk yield and quality. The students were shown how dairy production contributes to food security and provides a livelihood for farmers.
3. Poultry Farming for Egg and Meat Production: The visit to the poultry section focused on egg production and poultry meat farming. Students learned about different breeds of poultry raised specifically for eggs and meat, as well as the daily care required for poultry health. The farm M.D demonstrated egg collection and storage processes and shared insights into the nutritional needs of poultry to optimize both egg production and the quality of meat. They also discussed measures for preventing diseases and managing environmental conditions to ensure a healthy flock.
Agricultural Practices: Students gained firsthand knowledge of livestock farming practices, including the importance of balanced diets, healthcare, and breeding strategies for high-quality dairy and poultry products.
Sustainable Farming: The visit highlighted sustainable agricultural practices in cattle and poultry farming, stressing how these methods benefit both the environment and the economy.
Career Insights: The trip inspired some students to consider careers in Animal Husbandry and agribusiness, realizing the significance of this sector in providing food and employment.
4. Conclusion
The field trip to Abban Muhsin Farm was a highly educational experience that broadened students' understanding of Animal Husbandry beyond textbooks. They left with a deeper appreciation of the hard work and dedication involved in livestock farming and food production. The farm visit provided a unique opportunity to learn practical skills that could be applied in future studies and potential careers in agriculture related careers.
