*FIRST TRAINING SESSION OF THE VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMME*

Khalifa College of Advanced Studies (KCASS), Sokoto, in collaboration with CBM through Hikima Community Mobilization Development Initiative (HCOMDI), has commenced the first training session of the Vocational Skills Training Programme at the College's Skill Acquisition Center in Sokoto.
The programme is designed to equip beneficiaries with practical, market-oriented vocational skills that can enhance their employability, promote self-reliance, and create opportunities for entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
During the first training session, beneficiaries commenced intensive practical and theoretical training in the following skill areas:
1. Barbing β basic and advanced barbering techniques, grooming, equipment handling, hygiene, and customer service.
2. Hairdressing β hair care, styling, braiding, treatment, and other professional salon techniques.
3. Tailoring β introduction to sewing, measurement, cutting, machine operation, garment production, and finishing.
4. Shoe and Bag Making β practical skills in designing, cutting, assembling, and finishing footwear and bags using appropriate materials.
5. Catering β food preparation, cooking techniques, hygiene, presentation, and basic catering business practices.
6. Carpentry β fundamental woodworking techniques, use of carpentry tools, measurement, cutting, joining, and production of basic wooden items.
7. Solar Installation β introduction to solar energy systems, basic electrical connections, installation procedures, maintenance, and safety practices.
The training is structured around hands-on learning, allowing beneficiaries to acquire practical experience alongside the necessary theoretical knowledge. Trainers are guiding participants through demonstrations and supervised practical sessions to ensure that each beneficiary develops relevant competencies in their chosen trade.
The initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening vocational capacity and promoting economic empowerment among the beneficiaries. By providing practical skills and exposure to entrepreneurship, the programme seeks to enable participants to establish small businesses, access employment opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to the economic development of their communities.
