Hurry now...
I really don't understand parents who rush to get their kids off to secondary school at such ridiculously young ages! Sometimes you wonder if its not more for parents ego to boast that their very young kids are in secondary school or university !
The Western culture we have adopted makes sure that children are 18 years in their final year in high school and 19 years in colleges and universities(the exceptionally brilliant child is given accelerated classes while mostly they still maintain age appropriate class grade. I am not saying some exceptionally brilliant children aren't in universities at young ages, but they are the exceptions not the norm!).
It's not about a child being brilliant academically alone, how about other developments? Emotional, cognitive, mental, social developments? You end up having children who cannot cope with the rigors and maturity of secondary school. Many of these kids are not even academically brilliant enough to skip classes,so they end up struggling. A child who would have been an "A straight child if she was old enough in a class would end up not being able to cope, and then become a C student!
Parents would now wonder about the increase in psychopaths in the society while they are the ones breeding them! Stop comparing your children with mummy Tope's child who is only 10 in the university (sarcasm obviously!).
Please parents, stop rushing your children. Remember that your class mate who was the youngest in your class? What's the difference between you and them now? Did the oldest student faired worse than the others after they started working?
Age doesn't determine wealth or success,so why do we have the need to rush the children and ship them to secondary schools at such tender ages?
A matured child in the university will give you rest of mind. Allow them to enjoy their childhood in age appropriate classes, and stop rushing them to become adults before they learn to play ten ten!
A word is enough for the wise,do read the advice from the commissioner for education to parents and school owners.
I hope most parents will read this.
Copied!
