Job Purpose

The Supervising Teacher will be responsible for working with, and supporting the Proprietress on the following key school leadership and management areas. This will involve accepting delegated responsibility for aspects of these key areas.

• To share in the leadership and the corporate responsibility of the school
• To assist the Proprietress and governing body in ensuring high quality education for all pupils, continuous school improvement and ongoing staff development
• To take full responsibility for leading and managing the academic aspects of the school as directed by the Proprietress and governing body
• Assist the Proprietress in managing the academic standard of the school
• Play a major role under the overall direction of the Proprietress in formulating and reviewing the academic development Plan, aims and objectives of the school by:
o Establishing the policies through which they shall be achieved
o Managing staff and resources to that end
o Monitoring progress towards their achievement.

Duties

Strategic direction and development of the school

• To work with the leadership team to present an accurate and coherent account of the school’s academic performance
• To support the Proprietress to effectively manage the deployment and performance of all academic staff and pupils
• To organise the day to day running of all academic aspects of the school and on the efficient management of school academic resources.

Teaching and learning including curriculum
• Providing an example of excellence as the leading classroom practitioner and inspiring and motivating other staff.
• Working with the Proprietress to secure and sustain high expectations and excellent practice in teaching and learning throughout the school, monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of pupil’s achievement, and use benchmarks and set targets for improvement.
• To have a timetabled teaching commitment for groups and classes, including some cover for staff absence.
• To ensure the ongoing monitoring and regular evaluation of the quality of teaching and learning and the development of a broad and rich curriculum
• To lead on the provision for creativity, enquiry and problem solving in the school’s curriculum, whilst ensuring key learning skills and knowledge are planned for
• To monitor and evaluate planning, quality of teaching and learning and pupil progress
• To lead a core subject
• To contribute to the development, organization, and implementation of the school’s curriculum
o Ensure that the learning and teaching provided by different teaching teams form a co-ordinated, coherent curriculum entitlement for the pupils
• Ensuring that information on pupil progress is used to improve teaching and learning to inform and motivate pupils and to aid governing board in their future management of the school
• Ensuring that the individual pupil’s continuity of learning and effective progression of achievement are provided
• Promotion of extra-curricular activities in accordance with the educational aims of the school

Leading and Managing Staff
Working with the Proprietress and the Business Manager to lead, motivate, support, challenge and develop all staff to secure continual improvement; including her/his own continuing professional development.

Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources

In consultation with, and by the direction of the Proprietress, deploy people and resources efficiently and effectively to meet specific objectives in line with the school’s plans and financial context.

Performance Management

Supporting the Proprietress in accounting for the efficiency and effectiveness of the school to all relevant stakeholders carrying out Assessment, Recording and Reporting as follows

• To lead on recording, analysing and reporting of pupils assessment data, schemes, lesson plan and pupil notes
• To guide and advise the leadership team when setting statutory targets and integral targets for attainment
• Be responsible for the school’s pupil progress tracking system, keeping it up to date and advising the Proprietress and other staff on pupils requiring intervention strategies
• To lead pupil progress meetings and oversee intervention programmes.
• To ensure that Teachers and pupils are well-informed about the curriculum, attainment and progress and are able to understand and contribute to targets for improvement.

Key Interfaces
Business Manager
Qualification, experience & qualities.
Pocess minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 year Teaching experience in a Nursery/Primary School. Must be computer literate.
This is a leadership role so incumbent must be visionary, have excellent planning and written& verbal communication skills as well as evident interpersonal skills. Must be a problem solver, with a can-do mentality to help overcome the obstacles that may prevent the School from reaching its goals.
