Maya's Ark Academy is a school committed to building firm foundations. Feel free to explore our page and see how much fun our children have while learning.

We operate the British Early Years Foundation Scheme for our foundation years and a combination of the British/Nigerian Curricula for our Key Stages. We also have extra-curricula activities which takes learning outside our classrooms, cross-curricular linkages that are project and inquiry based and focused on building the skills that will ensure success in the 21st Century.

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY πŸ‘Œ.

This is a well known proverb which played out in our school.

Chantel Ukah ( a Year 5 pupil) told me her teacher made a mistake in counting her marks after Spelling Bee.

I generally thought the teacher had underscored her but by the time I gave her audience to get the full story, I got to know that she scored 17 marks and her teacher mistakenly wrote 18.

This honest act of hers earned her a certificate because this is third term and we are gearing up to add up scores for first, second and third term to determine the winners in the various classes.

Sometimes, the determining factor between 1st and 2nd positions is 1 mark so she could have quietly stayed calm but Chantel refused to take a mark that wasn't hers πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸΎπŸŽŠπŸ‘

She was praised at the assembly and we used the occasion to teach honesty as the best policy even when it seems to *hurt* Pupils were encouraged to always stand for the truthπŸ’ͺπŸ‘.

Thank you Chantel Ukah for this display of honesty and may God bless you as you grow up in truth and integrity πŸ™

In a world where a lot of virtues are considered *old fashioned* and replaced by vices that are considered *smart*, may God help us to raise upright children πŸ™.

Dr Faith Otti, FCCT.
Head of School,MAA.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES πŸ₯°πŸ€—πŸŒΉπŸ˜β€οΈ.

The 15th of May has been set aside by the UN as International Day of Families.

This year's theme is: Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing. πŸ‘

In Maya's Ark Academy, we joined the celebration with talks on the importance of the family as the fundamental unit of society.

Our children who have siblings in school were dressed in similar clothing/colours while those of us who are just alone dressed in our beautiful clothes to celebrate the day.

We thank all our parents who took out time to ensure the children appeared beautifully dressed πŸŒΉπŸ™.

We implore all families of Maya's Ark Academy to pray together this weekend for God to be the centre of our families and keep us united πŸ™. May we enjoy good health and prosperity in all we doπŸ™.

God bless Maya's Ark Academy family πŸ™

Happy World Book Day πŸ“–πŸ“š

World Book Day is usually celebrated on the 23rd of April.
However in most countries, it is holiday period so in the UK for instance, the celebration is usually done on the 3rd Thursday in March.

It is a global UNESCO initiative promoting reading, publishing and copyright protection. It encourages a love for literature among children and involves activities that highlight the life changing power of reading.

In Maya's Ark Academy this year, our celebration involved series of activities that will culminate with a reading competition.

The children in every class were given the same book to read at the assembly and then taken home to read to their parents over a weekend.
The success criteria for the reading competition was shared .

Watch out for these activities!!!!

PROJECT BASED LEARNING.

A teaching method where children engage in real life situations over a long period of time.

Our Year 6 Class demonstrated this method of learning.

Subject - Geography

We were learning about land planning and development. We discussed the various uses of land in the community or neighbourhood, such

- Land for residence
- Land for commerce
- Land for agriculture
- Land for leisure
- Land for environmental sustainability
- Land for infrastructure

We also learnt about the importance of land planning.

The pupils had to model these various uses of land, which featured places like

- nature parks, pools, and places for outdoor leisure
- housing complexes
- farmlands
- factories built away from living spaces
- good road network connections
- worship centres, health care facilities, schools, libraries

Finally, they made a presentation discussing the reasons for placing the different structures where they did.

One group mentioned that they put the farmland space close to the supermarket and market to enable quick and efficient delivery of fresh farm produce to the residents of their neighbourhood so they will enjoy healthy and fresh meals.

The other group decided to cite their health care facilities closer to the residential area, worship centre, and school. In their own words, it was absolutely necessary to have it (the hospital) near places where people are expected to gather in a large number in case of emergencies.

The Team Golden Tulip Estate and Emerald Height Estate presentations were concluded with suggestions on other things that can be added to the Estates and commendations from their younger colleagues who listened with rapt attention.

The dressing was also part of our hook.

The lesson also featured in homework questions, which asked

Have you seen a large red ❌️ on any building around you before?
Who put them there?
What does it mean?

Well done Miss Clara, Somto, Chinugam, Zaza, David, Yusuf, Deborah, Flourish, Izuchukwu, Dhakirah and Noella πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
