🌊⚓ RULE 9: RESPECT THE NARROW PATH
In the winding bends of a narrow channel, the rules of the sea become even more crucial.
A seasoned tanker captain once found himself guiding his massive vessel through such a tight passage. The water was calm, but the space was unforgiving, one wrong move could send tons of steel scraping against the banks, endangering lives and cargo.
Ahead, a small fishing boat bobbed lazily in the middle of the channel. Its crew, unaware of the danger, believed the bigger ship would simply “go around.” But in a narrow channel, there is no room for pride, guessing, or chance.
With steady hands and sharp judgment, the captain sounded his horn, signalling his approach. He reduced his speed, kept as close to the starboard side as possible, and waited for the smaller vessel to clear. Minutes felt like hours, but the careful discipline of Rule 9 prevented disaster.
⚠️ The lesson? In narrow channels, caution isn’t optional, it’s survival. Ships must keep to their starboard side, avoid overtaking unless absolutely safe, and respect signals.
✨ Rule 9 reminds every seafarer: the sea may be wide, but sometimes the path is narrow, and in those moments, respect, patience, and discipline are what keep us safe.
