One mistake many bag makers make when buying zip

You see that zip slider?
It can EXPIRE o

Yes… even stock zip wey everybody dey praise for strong quality fit still disappoint you badly if the slider don old or expire

And once that happens… chai
Na wahala promax straight

The zip will start spoiling even before use

Imagine finishing a fine bag only for customer to complain about zip

If God no de by your side , na Dpressn straight

That’s why you don’t just buy zip because it’s “stock.”

Alway inspect the slider quality very well..oh

Bag making no be only sewing… na understanding materials too

You can be using zip for years and still not know this

One thing that frustrated me seriously especially when I started bag making was ZIP wahala

At some point, I thought the problem was from my sewing…

Not until I discovered that not all zips are the same

And if nobody explains this part to you well, market people fit confuse you finish

So let me save somebody today

There are TWO common types of zip in the Nigerian market:
✂️ Regular Zip
✂️ Stock Zip

Now this is the difference
Regular zip usually has a softer cloth (tape).
Stock zip comes with a stronger and stiffer cloth. It feels more firm and more durable.

Most bag makers prefer stock zip for stronger bags

BUT wait

The real confusion starts from the slider (zip head).

Because even if both are size 5…
A size 5 STOCK slider is usually bigger and heavier than a size 5 REGULAR slider

And if you mistakenly mix them? Omo… prepare for premium zip wahala

The zip can start dragging… Refusing to close well… Or spoiling after small use

I’ve experienced it before and chaiii… the frustration no be here

That’s why bag making is not just sewing.

It is DETAILS on top DETAILS on top DETAILS

One tiny mistake can affect the whole finishing.

Nobody really tells beginners these things enough.

So if you’re learning bag making, save this post first

Have you ever experienced zip wahala before?

There are many types of zip ooo

And if you don’t know the right one to use, that beautiful bag can start giving problem

Most of us think zip is just zip

Until customers, start saying the zip is opening by itself, removing teeth or spoiling after small use

So today… let’s talk about TYPES OF ZIP

✂️ Nylon Zip
Very flexible and common.
Mostly used for handbags, purses, lunch bags and many soft bags.

✂️ Plastic/Mould Zip
This one has strong plastic teeth.
Good for school bags, traveling bags and stronger projects

✂️ Metal Zip
Very fine and classy
Mostly used for luxury bags, jeans, jackets and designer styles.

✂️ Invisible Zip
Just like the name, the teeth hide inside 😎
Mostly used for dresses and neat finishing.

Now in Nigeria market , there are two types from bag makers.

The regular and the stock.

Before I go deeper....I don't know if tailors lines categorize theirs this way.

Do have tailors here?

Do you have regular and stock when you are buying your zip?
