Is Your Child Ready to Read? Here's a Simple Reading Readiness Checklist!
Many parents wonder:
🤔 "My child knows the alphabet, but why aren't they reading yet?"
The truth is that reading readiness involves more than just knowing letters. Before children become confident readers, there are important foundational skills they need.
✅ Can your child:
🔹 Recognize most letter names?
🔹 Identify letter sounds?
🔹 Listen to and follow simple instructions?
🔹 Hear rhyming words (cat, hat, mat)?
🔹 Blend simple sounds together (c-a-t = cat)?
🔹 Hold a pencil correctly?
🔹 Enjoy looking at books and listening to stories?
🔹 Recognize their own name in print?
🔹 Speak clearly enough to express their thoughts?
🔹 Sit and focus on an activity for a few minutes?
If you answered "yes" to most of these, your child may be ready to begin their reading journey.
If not, that's perfectly fine. These skills can be developed through fun, engaging activities and the right support.
At Totusville Online Academy, we help children build strong reading foundations through phonics-based lessons that make learning enjoyable and effective.

One of the best activities to do with your children every day is to sing songs. Children love singing and they learn a lot through music and songs.
Teach your kids fun songs for preschoolers and toddlers.
Here are just some of the educational benefits of singing nursery rhymes and songs:
1. Develops gross motor skills (action rhymes)
2. Develops fine motor skills (finger rhymes)
3. Teaches language and increases vocabulary
4. Builds auditory perceptual skills (by learning rhythm, rhyme and sounds)
5. Develops mathematical skills (counting rhymes

Grammar Made Simple & Fun!
Today, my Year 2 learner explored prepositions and guess what?
It was such an exciting session!
We learned how to use words like:
🔴 in
🟢 at
🟣 on
Through simple, relatable sentences like:
👉 The book is on the table
👉 She is at home
👉 The keys are in my bag
I love how these little steps help children build strong sentence structure and confidence in speaking and writing.
Seeing my learner understand when to use in, on, and at correctly was such a proud moment!
Remember: Grammar doesn’t have to be boring with the right approach, it becomes FUN and EASY!
