WHY WE SHOULD USE “BY THE END OF THE LESSON” INSTEAD OF “AT THE END OF THE LESSON”.

As educators, it’s important to use precise language when stating our lesson objectives. The phrase “by the end of the lesson” is preferred over “at the end of the lesson” because it better reflects the process of learning and mastery.

When we say “by the end of the lesson,” we acknowledge that learning is gradual and occurs throughout the lesson. It means that students will be able to demonstrate understanding before or by the time the lesson concludes. This phrasing allows for flexibility, recognizing that learners may achieve the objective at different points during instruction.

On the other hand, “at the end of the lesson” implies that learning happens only at the final moment — as if understanding suddenly occurs after all teaching has ended. This can give the wrong impression that learning is a single event rather than a continuous process.

Therefore, educators use “by the end of the lesson” to emphasize ongoing learning, measurable outcomes, and the development of understanding throughout the teaching and learning process.

Whenever you're determined to go forward in life, one of the things you must not fail to do is to edit your relationship. This is pertinent because some people in your life can tactically draw you backwards or keep you in a stationary position.

Your determination to go forward must be backed up with some actions that may not be palatable with some people, and you don't need to be apologetic about it.

People can steal your material things but they can never take away what you have built within.

Therefore, work on the things people cannot steal from you --- your skills, knowledge, mindset, character, work ethic etc.

Why do some people try to live a fiddly life?

I was trying to help someone fill out a form for an account opening, and she told me that she wouldn't want to encounter difficulties in withdrawing her money.

I didn't understand why she was emphasizing that she didn't want bank issues until I began to fill out the form.

When I discovered the irregularities in personal data, I stopped and told her to go with her form because she will surely have challenges and I didn't want her to blame .

The date of birth she wanted me to fill for her was different from the date of birth she used on her National Identification Number (NIN).

The name on her NIN was different from the name on the she wanted me to fill. She told me that she has changed her first name.

There were many other fiddly things that discouraged me from filling out the form.

Moving round to inspect your learners' (students') activities or work in the classroom, is not outdated.

That's the best time to make the necessary corrections, and encourage legible handwritings.

Teachers, do it always.

TEACHING FROM SIMPLE TO COMPLEX OR FROM KNOWN TO UNKNOWN.

Teaching from simple to complex or from known to unknown is not a new phrase in the field of education, although many teachers have not been following it in their teachings, and this could be attributed to one of the reasons some learners are struggling in their academics.

I also blame parents who always decide the class they want their children to be admitted into even when the diagnostic evaluation shows clearly that the child cannot fit into that class . Most of these parents do not understand that learning is progressive, and lack of knowledge of one topic can affect the comprehension of the subsequent topics.

The reason for the inclusion of previous knowledge in the lesson note is to easily connect to the new topic. This implies that there has to be relationships or similarities between the new topic and the previous knowledge.

There are topics that must be taught before a learner can have a quick grasp of the new topics.

For instance, it's going to be very difficult for a teacher to teach active and passive voice in English grammar if the learners are not familiar with verb tenses, subject and object of a sentence, transitive and intransitive verbs (sentences).

Similarly, a child who is not acquainted with least common multiples, division, multiplication and addition, will find it very difficult, if not impossible, in solving problems on addition of unlike fractions.

Like in the case of active and passive voice, the teachers has to teach subjects and objects because a child who cannot identify the object(s) of a sentence cannot change a sentence from active to passive voice.

Moreover, a learner who has not learnt transitive and intransitive verbs may assume that every sentence can be changed from active to passive voice.

So, a teacher who knows his subject matter very well, can discuss with his/her school leader to rearrange the scheme of work so that it can go from simple to complex. Please don't ask what you should do if your school leader is ignorant of this . 😂

In conclusion, teachers as curriculum implementers, must always remember that learning is progressive, and they must teach from simple to complex for quicker understanding, and lasting impacts.

It's another long holiday in the acadedemic calendar, and I would like you to read this before enrolling your child(ren) in any holiday lesson or engaging the service of any lesson teacher.

I honestly commend parents on the various sacrifices they make to ensure that their child(ren) keep learning for continuous improvement, and better academic reports. Some go the extra mile to hire private lesson teachers who come to the house to teach their wards.

However, many parents do not know the academic needs of their children, and cannot tell when the needs are met. Some cannot really tell when their children have made tremendous progress in their academic journey. They focus more on their child's exam scripts and termly results which can be very deceitful because some class teachers and private schools do things that will impress parents.

Identifying your child's academic weakness or needs and engaging someone that can use this holiday to address should be your area of interest during this holiday.

Your child MUST NOT learn all the aspects of English and mathematics during this holiday. Tell the home lesson teacher to strictly focus on his or her primary needs.

If your child CANNOT read . Please hire a teacher that can handle reading effectively.

If your child's major challenge is creative writing, forget about other subjects and engage the service of a teacher that can address that creative writing need of your child during this holiday.

If your child is having serious challenge with spellings, you have to get a teacher that will focus on that and ensure that the child improves greatly before the end of the holiday.

If your child's area of difficulty is diction in English or Oral English, get a sound teacher that can address that. By diction or oral English, I mean pronouncing correctly using the right stress and intonation. I don't mean a person who speaks through his/her nose but cannot identify the phonetic sounds recognized by IPA.

Some parents don't know their child's true ability because of the 'excellent' results that some privates schools give, to keep deceiving them.

How can your child in the upper primary, who cannot solve problems on multiplication and division be getting A in mathematics? During this holiday, you need to try a lesson teacher from outside his/her school to drill him/her on the four basic operations .

How can your child in the upper primary, who cannot read a passage, understand it and spell some words be getting A grade in English? Do I need to tell you that the result was padded or manipulated to impress you?

You have been rushing your child since. Use this holiday to address his/her primary needs. Address the foundational problems during this holiday.

In case you don't know how to identify your child's academic needs, you can book an hour or two sessions with Mr Chisom Ikesinachi Nwachukwu , for an affordable price. Among other things, I'll carry out a diagnostic evaluation on your child, and make professional recommendations based on my findings.

It's Sunday, the first day of the week.
Happy Sunday!
Happy new week .

May you experience favour every day in this week.
