Use stationery (with an e) when referring to writing materials like paper, envelopes, and pens.

Use stationary (with an a) to describe something that is not moving or fixed in one place.

The easiest way to remember which one to use is through these simple tricks:

StationEry (with an 'e'): Think of Envelopes and E-mail. It is for all the paper and writing supplies you use at your desk.
Example in a Sentence:
I need to go to the store to buy some stationery for my letter-writing

StationAry (with an 'a'): Think of being Anchored or At a standstill. It describes a vehicle or object that is not moving.
