Carrying out MPI on a pile pipe..
MPI: magnetic particle inspection
It can be use to detect surface and sub surface ( near surface) indications only on ferromagnetic materials..
It works with the principle of magnetic flux leakage..
For optimum inspection, indications need to be 90 degrees to the direction of the lines of force..
While inspection a joint using MPI, the technician need to move in two directions (45 and 90 degrees) or 90 degrees to each other..
Note: lines of force comes out from the North Pole and enter into the magnet through the South Pole continuously, creating what we call a close loop ( which is one of the properties for line of force)
