We write to bring to the notice of all relevant authorities, the student community and the general public that Mr. Gospel Precious Menegbo, a 300L law student of Rivers State University and the Campus Director of Rivers State University Campus Directorate, Law Students' Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), was brutalized by members of the Nigeria Police Force yesterday, 9 March 2022 at Stadium Road, Rumomasi, Port Harcourt by around 10AM.
While they beat up another man at the aforesaid location, the police officers who had suspected that Mr. Menegbo was videotaping the scene, howbeit erroneously, ripped off his clothes, beat him up, forced him to crawl in the roadside gutter and threatened to shoot him.
Mr. Menegbo has not only sustained physical injuries but is in severe psychological trauma as a result of the cruel beatings and a near-death experience.
We strongly condemn the brutality which was meted out to Mr. Gospel Precious Menegbo in clear disregard of his fundamental rights as provided for and guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and other laws currently in force in Nigera. We, therefore, call on the Nigeria Police Force, all agencies and organizations concerned with the promotion of human rights as well as well-meaning members of the public to ensure that the perpetrators of this nefarious act are brought to book

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
March 8 every year is earmarked to celebrate the laudable achievements of women primarily as mothers and in all spheres of society. This year's International Women's Day, tagged , is another opportunity to raise awareness on the imperativeness of gender inclusivity in issues concerning our global society.
The history of our societies and the journey of human progress is never complete without stating the giant strides that women have taken—as leaders, in the media, in academia, in championing significantly good causes and everywhere.
We believe that the morphing multidimensional landscape of our century is introducing opportunities for women to, alongside their male counterparts, continue to make input in the present and forge the future.

REPORT ON OUR "LAWSAN CARES" PROJECT
• BACKGROUND
LAWSAN Cares is an annual National programme of the Law Students' Association of Nigeria that is geared towards giving back to the society and fulfilling our Corporate Social Responsibility. The programme is executed through the various campus directorates nationwide.
Against this backdrop, the Rivers State University Campus Directorate organized this year's programme as a visit to the orphanage.
• DETAILS
The Directorate after choosing Saviour's Orphanage, Port Harcourt as the beneficiary orphanage, proceeded to draw up modalities for the successful ex*****on of the project.
We wrote letters to lecturers and select members of the student body, soliciting charitable donations to fund the project.
We also produced several e-flyers and infographics to raise awareness about the programme, the benefits of giving and to ask for donations. The Directorate used her social media handles to spread the information about the programme.
We were able to purchase food items, clothing, toileteries and other necessaries and took off from the Faculty of Law, Rivers State University by 10AM.
Our train consisted of members of the Executive Council, other students and a photographer.
When we arrived Saviour's Orphanage, we spoke with the proprietor of the orphanage and took time to engage the children. It was fun-filled and fulfilling as we familiarized ourselves with the children, sang, danced, played and encouraged them.
Towards the end of the visitation, we took photographs.
• CONCLUSION
The LAWSAN Cares programme is a commendable project that should be executed as long as LAWSAN exists. It is a way to feel the pulse of society and touch lives in meaningful ways.
We are honoured to have participated in this act of service to humanity and we look forward to more opportunities for service.
