There are 3 principles that govern FLAT PATTERN DRAFTING. One of them is COUNTRING, which is our topic of discussion.
Contouring takes place on the upper bodice, for garments/designs that closely fit the hollows of the body... this takes place on the shoulder blade, above, in-between and under bust alongside the armhole area.

WHAT IS A DART?
WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
IS IT NECESSARY?
• A dart is a "V" shaped wedge that is removed from the fabric so that the fabric can bend in two directions one time to fit the contours of the body.
• A dart is used to shapen the fabric, so it follows the contours of the body.
•To add shape and fit to a garment....yes, it is.
Types of dart
• Bust dart
• Waist dart
• Contour/double pointed dart
• French dart
• Elbow dart.
Our fabric/ pattern paper is essentially a flat surface and the body foundation/ dimensions isn't...so how do we get a flat surface to fit the contours of our body....we'll thats were darts & seams are introduced.

Are French curve rulers necessary when starting out?
YES YES YES.
French curve rulers are essential marking tools in fashion and design as they are used primarily when drafting or altering pattern. Straight lines, curved lines, dart, seams, and pockets need to be accurate and drawn correctly. As a fashion student, French curves should be part of the fashion tools you first acquire.
However, it is not necessary to acquire them all at once.... if you're working on a budget, you can acquire a PATTERN MASTER first as it embodies most of the curves and straight ruler in one (a 3 in one ruler) and then climb your way up...

Toochieblaq school of fashion is a fashion school who's primary aim is to lay solid foundations for individual seeking to build their career in fashion, either as a designer or a technician.
We plan on doing this by extensively grounding them on the basics that govern fashion and design, just like our motto says: EVERYTHING STARTS FROM THE BASICS. And this applies generally in life.
Not to bring down any school or program, but I've seen people finish a 6 months / 1 year program and they are still confused as they were when they first came. I say this because in toochieblaq school of fashion, confidence is one of our core values, meaning that part of our aim is to make individuals confident in themselves and in their works.
If your foundation is weak, you will crumble. You will have a hard time understanding things and fashion in itself is a complex course but with the right foundation, would not be difficult.
We plan on building foundations through;
• Intensive unfiltered classes
• Technical practices
• Grouping / individual projects
• Fashion books ( as a fashion student you should have atleast 3 books on fashion) we got you covered in that area, as we would send out soft copies of fashion books to our students.
• Extra curricular activities cause all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy😉
Our methods/ teachings are sustainable meaning that anywhere you find yourself even if its in an advanced master class, you will not be bothered(confused) cause you know your rooted in a strong foundation.
