Initiative For Etiquette Education is an initiative of refined manners; and it is to sensitize the general public on the need for etiquette education to be included as part of our learning curriculum in our educational system. We have worked with institutions of learning, business organizations and other organizations that recognizes etiquette as a necessary tool for growth and development and we have come to the realization that etiquette would play a major role in bringing morality back to our society given it's decadence. Please leave a comment about your experience as you visit our page, we would love to hear from you. Thanks

Can You Practice Using The following Statements In Your Exchanges With People Over The Next Few Weeks, Avoiding Insults?
1. I understand you but I don’t agree
2. I am not sure. I haven’t thought it through yet
3. You were right and I was wrong
4. I made a mistake
5. I am sorry
6. I thought so at the time but have now changed my mind
7. I honestly don’t know
8. Perhaps we should park the debate for now and revisit it at a future date.
9. Thanks for conforming that I was right. I don’t know it all. I get many things wrong.
10. Good point but here is another point of view...

If you can interact with people using this language, you are unlikely ever to be blocked by any reasonable person, or to get into toxic arguments with people. You don’t need to start with an insult when you disagree, no matter how vehemently.

The most important part of human existence shouldn't be about how much money we make or how much impact we make in the world or what our status is, it should be simply how well we treat each other.

Truth is we spend most of our life at work and therefore we will socially interact with our colleagues; most times in our day to day interaction we get in the way of each other and this is due to our individual differences. This lesson teaches us how to maintain good interpersonal relationship through a good and healthy interaction despite how we differ one to another.

Take note of the following:

• Excessive social chit-chat, office gossip, politics and anything very personal should be avoided. “Say nothing, then there is nothing!”

• Criticising or reprimanding someone in front of others is hurtful and shows insensitivity - rather call the person aside and address any issues in private.

• Give praise where praise is due.

• Don’t discuss your personal affairs at work, if your need help go to an appropriate professional like a counsellor, doctor etc.

• Avoid sexist or racist jokes, especially in a large organisation with a diverse workforce.

• Avoid asking personal questions and do not feel obliged to answer personal questions.

• Don’t shout to get someone’s attention - it reflects laziness and disrespect for the person you are calling and others around you.

• Don’t converse in front of others in a language they don’t understand - the official business language in Nigeria is English - use it.

• Make sure that anything shared with you in confidence whether work-related or personal stays that way.

• Avoid losing your temper at work or becoming aggressive - it shows poor emotional intelligence and is not professional.

• Always say please and thank you and try to learn the terms in all official languages.

We hope you found these tips helpful? For more information or to engage our services on staff training for your organization, business or company, call Refined Manners on 07035016415.

OK to start our journey, we are going to talk about the 5 characteristics of poise.

What is poise? Poise is simply the way an individual carries his/herself. Or the manner in which an individual walks, talks, appears and behaves in his day to day interactions with people.

We are going to take the 5 characteristics one day at a time and so we are going to treat each characteristic daily. And today we are looking at

Confidence simply is having genuine a self assurance or feeling comfortable in one's own skin.

Confidence isn't arrogance but confidence is knowing one deserves respect and others too do.

Confidence isn't a feeling that one is better than others, but a feeling that is assuring of ones belief in his/herself.

It is OK to feel special about yourself but the feeling that one is more special than others isn't confidence but arrogance.

Confidence doesn't say I know the answer to everything but confidence says I know what I know but I would love to find out what others know too.

Confidence is having a positive look even in defeat. Not treating defeat as the end of the world or something to kill oneself over, but to acknowledge the winner was better and deserves the prize even if you would so love to take the prize.

Hope you enjoyed reading, please stay tuned for the next characteristic on the 5 characteristics of poise same time tomorrow.
