Like the renowned author John Maxwell once wisely stated, 'Readers are leaders.' This statement is true, as literacy skills play a fundamental role in shaping the future of our leaders. However, we must address the reality that some of our children are currently struggling with reading.

As parents and teachers, it is crucial that we provide them with the necessary support to overcome these challenges. Failing to do so can have lasting consequences on their future success. By embracing this responsibility, we can make a significant impact on their lives.

Fortunately, with my training and experience in teaching struggling readers, I have witnessed remarkable results. I AM DUMB😔

James arrived home from school one Friday afternoon and discovered his cousins engrossed in a game in the sitting room. It had been a long time since he last saw them, so he was thrilled by the reunion.

"Come and join us!" Paul, one of his cousins, invited eagerly.

"Absolutely! Count me in!" James replied, promptly discarding his backpack and shoes. He couldn't wait to outshine them all in the game.

As he approached them, his excitement dwindled, and he suddenly felt discouraged. Without a word, he withdrew and headed straight for his room, disheartened.

Rita, his other cousin, noticed his sudden change in demeanor and asked, "Aren't you going to play anymore?"

Meanwhile, James's mother was busy in the kitchen, while Aunt Grace was present in the sitting room, keeping an eye on her children's game. Seeing James walk away without responding, Aunt Grace decided to follow him to his room and inquire about his sudden withdrawal.

"What's the matter, James? Why did you decide not to join your cousins in the game anymore? You do realize there's a fantastic prize for the winner, right?" Aunt Grace inquired gently, concerned for her nephew.

James stared at her silently, his teary eyes revealing the hidden emotions lurking within him. It was evident that he had something to say, something that had been troubling him deep inside. His eyes were filled with sadness and uncertainty.

"Mom says I'm dumb because I can't read," James finally confessed, his voice trembling. "Even my teacher says so. It's a reading game, and I know I can't play it. There's no point in participating when I know I'll lose."

Just as James spoke, his mother entered the room, having overheard the conversation. Aunt Grace turned to her with a mixture of anger and disappointment. "What have you been telling your son?" she exclaimed, her voice filled with frustration. "What hurtful and negative words have you been feeding his young heart? Do you think he's to blame for his reading difficulties? Look at what you've done to his self-esteem! I'm certain he now dreads books and written texts. It's truly disheartening to realize that this little boy is already burdened by the actions of the two most significant people in his life—his mother and his teacher."

James's mother was rendered speechless, realizing the impact of her misguided approach to his reading and writing struggles. She sensed the toll it had taken on his emotional well-being and their relationship, but she didn't know how to rectify the situation.

This pivotal moment led to a profound and transformative conversation between Aunt Grace and James's mother. Through the lessons learned and applied correctly, a new, confident, and brilliant James was reborn.
