A picture from the 3rd place winner of the Agar Art Contest by the American Society for Microbiology.

Created by a PhD student at Instituto de Ciencia de materials de Aragon, Isabel Franco Castillo who won third place in the Professional Category.
The 3D volcano is a mound of Agar inoculated with Cladosporium cladosporioides, dripping with dyed-agar lava. The sand is mould spores and the corals are tiny microbes grown on dyed-agar sea.

According to researchers on Britain 🇬🇧 , protection against COVID-19 by the doses of Pfizer/BioNtech and the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines begins to fade within six months of their administration.

Within 5 to 6 months the Pfizer shot fell to 74% and the AstraZeneca fell to 67% 4 to 5months in their effectiveness against the virus.

Ukranian-American scientist Selman Waksman was born on 22nd July, 1888.

He coined the term antibiotic and discovered Streptomycin with his Laboratory group, it was the first drug effective against Tuberculosis, he was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1952 for his work.

ISP media were developed by Difco Laboratories for the International Streptomyces Project (ISP) in order to select stable properties and reproducible procedures for characterization of Streptomyces species. ISP Medium 1 is also referred to as Tryptone-Yeast Extract Broth.
