A good man takes a bow.....
David Oladimeji Mako (1959-2023): Rest Thee Well, Dutiful Mate
In a time like this, it is indeed hard to say farewell.
In such a time like this, when we have steered the ship of our special group right, one of our primary sailors now departs from the Great Olivet 1979/1981 Alumni Set.
David Oladimeji Mako, who we always called Mako, so intimately that it sounded like a first name or an alias. Over four decades ago, we came under one roof, we arrived at the gate of our educational progress, in our fledgling formative years. We arrived in Olivet as boys and girls and entered into higher institutions as men and women.
In our days of social gathering, class work and sporting activities, Mako came across early as a dependable rallying point and great organiser. Those of us who shared the same roof, the same class and the same path with Mako knew, some early, some later, that our friend and brother was an awesome gift in the group. In all ramifications of the word, David Oladimeji Mako was indeed a blessing to us.
Among us, Dimeji was the prince of motivation, a dutiful officer who was dedicated and who gave all to the cause he ever set his mind on; Mako was efficient to the details and sometimes to the fault of perfection; he was a jolly good fellow like no other, the spirit and inspiration behind our first ever reunion in 41 years after we all went our different ways, meeting on and off, and catching up on one another, sometimes getting to rediscover ourselves through other third parties from other connections.
He was the bridgehead and the bridge builder, the unyielding patriot and the predictable optimist, breaker of impediments, and never-say-die inspirer of great ideas. Indeed, we owe the union and unity of our set to Mako’s restless spirit.
Mako was a jolly good fellow who lived a life of service and spent his days in connecting with people. Enigmatic and hyperactive, he was the problem solver and team player par excellence. The testimonies of his life of devotion, bonding, loyalty and commitment to family and friends live with us.
Surely, we will miss you, dear Mako.
We will miss your confident velvet voice.
We will miss your infectious laughter.
We will miss your selfless intellect.
We will miss your persistence to get things done.
We will miss your support system in the leadership of our set…
And as we bid you a permanent and divine restfulness in the bosom of the Lord
We say rest thee oh well, dutiful mate, till we meet to part no more.
Adieu, Mako, Adieu David Oladimeji Mako, Adieu Sese Makosa.

It is a very sad day for us as friends, classmates and contemporaries to have to bury one of our own, Olawale Oladosu Balogun who departed this sinful world without warning recently.
This departure is a clear message of our sojourn on Earth and how ephemeral those things we hold dear and fight for are.
Fare thee well, Distinguished colleague, friend and gentleman par excellence, till the resurrection morning, when we'll meet to part no more. You are sorely missed by the Olivet Baptist High School HSC Class of 1979/81
