SOME NAMES WITH STRANGE MEANING: WHO TAUGHT US TO HĀTE OURSELVES?

The name Cecilia is derived from the Latin word "Caecilius", which means "blind" or "dim-sighted".

The name Kennedy, which became popular because of President John F. Kennedy, means "ugly head" or "helmet head" in Irish.

Portia is derived from the old Roman word porcius, which means "pig".

Mara means "bitterness". However, in Latvian mythology, Mara was considered the highest goddess.

Cameron has Gaelic origins and means "crooked nose".

Leah means "weary" or "grieved".

Louis means "famous in war" or "famous war".

Imagine giving your child an African equivalent of any of these names.

In fact, the priest will refise to use it for baptism.

But once you change the same name to its foreign meaning, no one quarrels with you.

So many Africans have changed their names, including family names, because they have something to say about their ancient tradition, about the circumstances under which they were born, about their lineage or ancestry,

That is the level we have descended to.

When an average African Christian claims to be against idolatry, he is referring to his ancient cultural and traditional practices not that of the others.

My questions are: who taught you to be looking down on yourself? Who taught you to hāte yourself?
