Check out the outcome of this study on DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF MALARIA AMONG FUTO STUDENTS

This study assessed the level of early diagnosis and treatment of malaria among FUTO students. It identified the level of awareness on early diagnosis of malaria before treatment; identified the reasons why early diagnosis of malaria is not done before treatment; assessed the pattern of treatment for malaria; and determined the level of awareness of Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT). The study also examined the influence of early diagnosis to their pattern of treatment. A total of 255 students constituted the sample size for the study. Data for the study were collected through structured questionnaire. Frequency, Percentages, Mean statistics, Regression estimates and ANOVA were used in data analysis. Result shows that majority (57%) of the students were male, 40% use symptoms like running nose, headache and pains to confirm malaria; majority (97%) of students have not been tested using RDT, (40%) of the few that tested, had their test carried out in the hospital, majority (90%) of the students are not aware that early diagnosis of malaria can detect the level of malaria parasite in the blood, (83%) of students do not know about other diseases that exhibit similar signs with malaria and majority (70%) do not know that early diagnosis can lead to effective and prompt treatment of malaria. Survey on the knowledge of early treatment of malaria showed that majority (73%) of the students take treatment for malaria immediately after symptoms, and (37%) get their drug recommendations from patent medicine store. However, the majority (73%) of students have not heard about complicated malaria which can cause cerebral malaria; and the majority (83%) are not aware that early treatment of malaria can reduce the risk of complicated malaria. Data on the pattern of treatment showed that majority of the students treat malaria with malaria drugs; and majority (80%) do not continue with treatment after the symptoms have gone. Survey on awareness on ACT made it obvious that the majority (73%) of the students have not heard about ACT as an effective treatment for malaria, and majority (87%) do not know that ACT is a standard anti-malaria, set by WHO for effective treatment of malaria. In conclusion, the result showed that there is a significant influence of Early diagnosis of malaria and pattern of treatment among students in Federal University of Technology, Owerri. It is therefore recommended that there should be proper enlightenment for students on early diagnosis of malaria and the use of ACT drugs to avoid cases of complicated malaria and/or death of the patient.

This study assessed the effect of noodle spice on s*x hormones of female albino rats. Fifteen (15) healthy female albino rats, weighing between 120-200g grouped into three of 5 rats each were used for the study that lasted for 28 days. Group I, the control group were administered standard feed and water ad libitum. Groups II and III were fed with 200g of feed mixed evenly with 40g (two satchets) of Indomie Instant Noodle and Tummy-Tummy Noodle spices respectively. The animals were fed twice a day with their respective feed mixture per day and water ad libitum for 28 days. The daily feed intake and body weight changes of the animals were also measured. The study is a descriptive case report to assess the strategies for the control of diabetes mellitus among the aged 45 years and above attending Imo Specialist Hospital Umuguma. Data collection was collected using a well-structured, self-administered questionnaire. Analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The data generated from the study was presented in the form of tables and analyzed as descriptive frequencies, percentages and cross tabulations. The study survey revealed that greater percent (46%) of the respondents were in the age range of 45-54years, married (66.1%), and attained tertiary level of education (43.8%). High proportion (79.9%) of the respondents were Christians, Igbos (15%) civil servants (25.3%) petty traders (24%), and majority (96.4%) had knowledge of diabetes; 53.4% had family history of diabetes; 47.4% suffered type 2 diabetes. Survey have it that the (26.4%) of the respondents regularly check for glucose. Analysis equally exposed that use of diabetes pills was very effective than insulin injection in the control of diabetes; again, cutting sugar and refined carbs from diet (33.8%), cutting intake of processed food and optimizing vitamin D in diet were very effective dietary approach to diabetic control. To high degree, Moringa leaves (56%), Cinnamon leaves (28%), and Flax (16%) were very effective local remedies to diabetic control. Result also showed that, to a high range, drinking enough water (42.6%), regular exercise (25.9%), avoiding of sedentary behaviours (24.1%) were very effective lifestyle modifications to diabetic control. It is recommended that the federal government should embark on free testing outreach to the public, so as to ensure people know their sugar level and how to prevent this non communicable disease that is epidemic now.

An enhanced E-learning platform took into consideration vital concerns of its target population (teachers and the learners) and also provides a conducive environment for teachers to carry out their teaching effectively and efficiently. It does also provide the same atmosphere for students (learners) to enjoy quality education. The main objective of this study is to design an enhanced E-learning application in tertiary institution. To achieve this aim, existing E-learning applications were evaluated based on identified performance indicators (communicativeness of interface, security and system upgrade). Based on the limitations of the existing E-learning applications (Module, Blackboard and Edmodo E –Learning applications) a logical and physical system for the proposed system was designed and the unique system was also evaluated based on identified performance indicators. The analysis of the proposed system was carried out using the Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Methodology (OOADM). This study also presented the model, system design and formal description of the e-learning system. Subsequently, the architectural design was implemented using the Apache Wamp Server, MySQL and PHP web technology tools on the backend while HTML, CSS, and JavaScript technologies were used on the front end. The result of the design was a prototype system that was developed which has a better communication interface, security and system upgrade capabilities. To enjoy a better feel of security, a firewall system was integrated into E-learning platforms to filter out the activities of unsolicited traffic to the web platform.
