*ADVERTISEMENT FOR 2026/2027 FUTO POST-UTME SCREENING EXERCISE FOR SUPPLEMENTARY ADMISSION*

Candidates who chose Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) as their first choice university in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are hereby invited to the Supplementary Screening Exercise for admissions. The following conditions apply:

1.. Application portal will open on *Thursday, September 24, 2026,* and close on *Thursday, October 8, 2026.*

2.. ONLY candidates that are at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, are ELIGIBLE to apply.

3.. Each candidate must ensure that his/her JAMB subject combination is as prescribed in the JAMB brochure for the programme applied for.

4.. Candidates who did not choose FUTO as their first choice University but scored a minimum of 150 can also apply on the condition that they visit the JAMB CAPS and change to FUTO.

5.. Only candidates with at least 5 O’Level Credit passes in English Language and Mathematics, with three other relevant O’Level subjects (depending on the programme) at not more than two sittings are eligible to apply.

6.. ONLY candidates who scored a minimum of 150 in their UTME are ELIGIBLE to apply. The minimum JAMB Score requirements for various programmes are as follows:

FUTO TO THE WORLD 🌎🌍
Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe, a Nigerian engineer, inventor and technology entrepreneur, is behind the ContiSX Phone, a smartphone built around blockchain-based identity, secure communication and financial services.

The device is designed to combine everyday smartphone functions with the ContiSX ecosystem. It features encrypted messaging, voice and video communication, a self-custodied Smart Account, on-chain identity and access to services including payments, securities and digital asset management.

Ekekwe has a strong background in engineering and semiconductor technology. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and previously worked at Analog Devices, where he was part of a team involved in designing an accelerometer for an iPhone generation and developed wafer-level chip-scale packaging for inertial sensors.

The ContiSX Phone is currently available for preorder at ₦550,000 per unit, according to the company. Its website says shipping will begin in October 2026, although different ContiSX pages currently display different October dates.

ContiSX describes the device as a “sovereign phone” focused on secure communication and user-controlled digital identity, with Nigeria listed as the first market for distribution.

Remembering, Professor C.O.E. Onwuliri As He continues to Rest in the Lord

Professor Celestine Onyemobi Elihe (C. O. E.) Onwuliri (February 17, 1952 - June 3, 2012) was a renowned Nigerian scholar, Professor of Zoology (Parasitology), and university administrator. He hails from Umuokazi, Amuzi in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Imo State.

One of his most celebrated scientific contributions was describing a dichotomous pathway of energy metabolism in the infective stages of parasitic nematodes, establishing the presence of functional Krebs cycle enzymes in parasitic worms. He also conducted extensive research on the epidemiology and control of neglected tropical diseases, including Dracunculiasis (Guinea worm), Onchocerciasis (River blindness), Filariasis, and Schistosomiasis in Nigeria. He authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles in reputable national and international journals.

Served as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) from 2006 to 2011. He previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Acting Vice-Chancellor at the University of Jos (UNIJOS). As the V.C. of FUTO, he opened doors for many opportunities.

He served Imo State as the Honorable Commissioner for Information, Culture, Youth, and Sports (where he helped organize the "IMO '98" National Sports Festival) and later as Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources.

H also worked as a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO-TDR), the River Blindness Foundation, and the Nigerian Guinea Worm Eradication Programme (1988–2008).

After his demise, his wife (Prof. Viola Onwuliri) and children set up Prof. C.E.O. Onwuliri scholarship foundation in his honour which many have benefited from.

FUTO Vice-Chancellor Visits 34 Artillery Brigade to Foster Collaboration

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, today paid a courtesy visit to the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and promote peaceful coexistence between the University and security agencies.

The Vice-Chancellor was received on behalf of the Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. A. Ahmed, by the Chief of Staff, Lt. Col. A.A. Jir.

Discussions focused on strengthening security around the University, enhancing collaboration with the Nigerian Army, and ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for teaching, learning, and research.

The visit underscores FUTO's commitment to building strong institutional partnerships with critical stakeholders in advancing the University's mission.

RE-AFFIRMATION OF PROHIBITION ON POST-EXAMINATION CELEBRATIONS

The University Community is hereby reminded that the Senate, at its 495th and 501st meetings held on Thursday, August 31, 2023, and Monday, April 29, 2024, respectively, prohibited all forms of destructive celebrations following examinations, particularly among graduating students.

In a similar context, Management, at its 7th meeting held on Monday, September 7, 2026, re-affirms the ban on unruly and rowdy post-examination celebrations. Students are, therefore, reminded that the following activities are strictly prohibited:

- Motorcades accompanied by loud music, excessive horn-blowing, reckless driving, or other forms of noise and public disturbance;

- The use or display of armed guards/security personnel during celebrations;

- Rowdy behavior, public revelry, disorderly conduct, or any activity capable of disturbing the peace of the University and its host communities;

- Littering, indiscriminate disposal of waste, and any act that degrades or pollutes the University environment;

- Blocking or obstructing roads, entrances, walkways, or other University facilities;

- Damage, defacement, or destruction of University property; and

- Any other conduct that violates University regulations or threatens the safety and security of the entire University community.

Management has directed that any student found participating in any of these prohibited activities will face appropriate sanctions as provided in extant Regulations governing the conduct of students.

Students are also enjoined to be security-conscious and report any suspicious activity/movement around them promptly.

All students are, therefore, strongly advised to comply with this directive and refrain from any act capable of bringing the University into disrepute. Deans and HODs are also requested to bring this circular to the attention of students in their respective Schools and Departments.

SECURITY INCIDENT ON THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) is deeply saddened by the tragic security incident that occurred on the University campus on Sunday, 6th September 2026, during which a visitor to the University was fatally shot.

Two female students were also reportedly abducted during the incident. The circumstances are currently under investigation by the relevant security agencies, and Management is engaging with the appropriate authorities regarding the safe recovery of the students.

Management assures students, staff, parents and the entire University community that the safety and security of all members of the University community remain a top priority. Additional security measures are being implemented in collaboration with the relevant security agencies.

Members of the University community are urged to remain calm and vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement and promptly report any suspicious activity.

FUTO VC, Prof. INS Dozie Strengthens Ties with Avu & Umuoma-Nekede Host Communities through Stakeholder Consultations

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, has continued his engagement with relevant stakeholders across the University's host communities.

As part of the engagement, the Vice-Chancellor paid a visit to HRH Eze Morrison S. J. Eke, PhD, Omadike of Umuoma-Nekede Autonomous Community, and HRH Eze Michael Okere, Duruihekaibeya VIII of Avu Autonomous Community.

The visits provided an opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor to strengthen relationships, exchange views, and reaffirm FUTO's commitment to peaceful, mutually beneficial partnerships with its host communities.

Prof. Dozie expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers and their communities for their support and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in advancing the University's mission and fostering sustainable community development.

Amongst those who attended the colorful event were the Principal Officers, namely, the University Registrar, Mr. Chidozie Uba, Mrs. Ebere Nwadike (Bursar), and the University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Justina Ekere. MEET PROF. I.N.S. DOZIE: THE 9TH VICE-CHANCELLOR OF FUTO

Who is Prof. I.N.S. Dozie?

Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie is a Professor of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, researcher and university administrator with over three decades of experience in teaching, research, higher education leadership and public service.

Born on March 3, 1966, he obtained his B.Sc. in Microbiology/Biochemistry and M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Ph.D. in Medical Entomology and Parasitology from the University of Jos. He also undertook executive management training at the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel, in collaboration with the Harvard University Extension School.

Prof. Dozie began his academic career at Imo State University, Owerri, in 1992, rising to the rank of Professor in 2005. He joined FUTO in 2011 and has served in several strategic positions, including Head of Department, Dean, Director of Linkages and Advancement, Chairman of the Committee of Deans, and member of the University Governing Council.

In 2021, he became the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ideato, where he provided leadership during the institution's formative years.

On the 19th of June, 2026, Prof. Dozie assumed office as the 9th Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, bringing extensive experience in university administration, institutional development and academic leadership.

His research spans medical microbiology, parasitology, epidemiology, infectious diseases and public health. His academic and research engagements have included organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, UNDP/World Bank, TDR Geneva, CODESRIA and TETFund.

He has supervised numerous undergraduate, Master's and doctoral research projects and has contributed to scholarly publishing as an editor and reviewer.

Professor Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), has paid a courtesy visit to Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), in Abuja.

The visit was primarily aimed at formalizing his introduction to the NUC Executive Secretary, following his appointment as the 9th Vice-Chancellor of FUTO. It also sought to strengthen the working relationship between the University and the Commission.

During the visit, Professor Dozie sought the support and guidance of the NUC Executive Secretary in advancing the vision and mission of FUTO. He also commended Professor Ribadu for his leadership and the remarkable work he has undertaken since assuming office as Executive Secretary of the NUC.

The FUTO Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to excellence, scholarship, innovation, and sustainable development, in line with the University's vision.

Professor Dozie expressed confidence that, with the support of the NUC and other key stakeholders, his administration would continue to strengthen FUTO’s academic standards, research output, innovation ecosystem, and global competitiveness.

He thanked the Executive Secretary for receiving him and expressed his readiness to maintain a constructive and mutually beneficial relationship between FUTO and the NUC.

In his response, Professor Ribadu congratulated the VC on his appointment and urged him to leverage his experience in University administration to excel in his new role, promising to provide assistance within the limits of his office.
