As a student; Remembing what you have learnt is key to academic excellence

Here are steps to help you remember what you've read 😊

1. Focus as you read: the ability to focus while reading is an important part of leaning. Pay attention, minimize distractions especially from phone, noise and be present with the material.

2. Understand before memorizing: this is one of the problem students face in school. Make sure you grasp the concepts. If you don’t understand, re-read or look up confusing parts.

3. Take notes: Jot down key points, summaries, or questions in your own words. Writing reinforces memory.

4. Highlight & annotate: Mark important ideas, definitions, or examples. Write notes in the margin or a separate notebook.

5. Summarize: After reading a section/chapter, summarize it in your own words without looking at the text. Test yourself.

6. Teach someone: Explain what you’ve read to a friend, have a reading partner or even yourself (out loud). Teaching cements understanding.

7. Chunk information: Break content into smaller sections. Focus on one chunk at a time, then connect ideas later.

8. Recall actively: After reading, close the book and try recalling key points. Quiz yourself on main ideas, terms, or arguments.

9. Connect ideas: Link new info to what you already know. Relate concepts to real-life examples or other subjects.

10. Space out revision: Review material after a few hours/days. Spaced repetition strengthens memory retention.

11. Use visuals: Diagrams or charts can help remember complex ideas especially for subjects like sciences, law, or literature.
