AMAZING 2 5 1 CHORD PROGRESSIONS π₯
One of the most effective ways to improve your music vocabulary, is to play different chords progressions. So today we look at the 2 5 1 progressions;but let me first of all explain what chord progression means
CHORD PROGRESSION is a sequence of chords played one after another.
2 5 1 progression comes in different forms.
1. THE BASIC 2 5 1 PROGRESSION:in the key of C, the progression will be D minor(2) G major(5) C major(1). This progression is best known to beginners.
2. THE STATIC JAZZ 2 5 1 PROGRESSION: I know you might be wondering that means, well this is something that you hear in jazz style of music where your fingers hardly move. Check these out:
The static jazzy 2 5 1 progression using the LH/RH formula, where LH stands for left hand and RH stands for right hand.
The 2 chord will be D-A/C-F (D minor 7)
The 5 chord will be D-G/B-F(G dominant 7)
The 1 chord will be C-G/B-E(C major 7)
3. THE TRITONIZED 2 5 1 PROGRESSIONS:In this case you will substitute 5 chord (G dominant 7)with another chord (Db dominant 7)a Tritone away
Tritone:sharp 4 or flat 5 hence 3 whole tones from the root.
So a tritonized 2 5 1 will be:
2=D-A/C-F(D minor 7)
b2=Db-Ab/B-F(Db dominant 7)
1=C-G/B-E (C major 7)
