Literal meaning:
To “have the cockroach” —

💭 Real meaning (idiomatic):
It means to feel sad, depressed, or have the blues.
In English, it’s like saying “I feel down” or “I’m feeling blue.”

Meaning:
This French expression comes from the 19th century.
The word cafard originally meant cockroach, but it also came to mean a hypocrite or gloomy person. Over time, avoir le cafard started being used to describe a feeling of sadness or melancholy.--

Examples:
1. Depuis qu’il a quitté sa famille, il a le cafard.
→ Since he left his family, he’s been feeling down.

“Avoir la flemme de”

🔹 Meaning:
The French expression “avoir la flemme de” means “to feel too lazy to” or “not to feel like doing something.”
It’s an informal and very common phrase used in daily French conversations.

“Flemme” = laziness, lack of motivation
So, literally, “avoir la flemme de faire quelque chose” means “to have laziness to do something.”
