BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS IN NUMERACY!

At Choicefield School, we believe mathematics becomes meaningful when children understand the ideas behind numbers, not just memorize them.

Today, we are highlighting some important foundations of number that support children’s early mathematical development:

🔢 Number Sense
🗣️ Rote Counting
🧸 One-to-One Correspondence
🎯 Cardinality

Through play, counting, hands-on activities, and everyday experiences, children gradually develop confidence in understanding and using numbers.

At Choicefield School, we are committed to creating learning experiences that help our children explore, think, understand, and grow.

When children are given enough time to explore, teachers often need to teach less and observe more, yet so much learning is taking place.

Through play, children are already counting, comparing, sorting, measuring, testing ideas, solving problems and making decisions. What may look like “just play” to an adult can actually be serious learning for a child.

The teacher’s role is not always to take over or provide the answer. Sometimes, it is to observe, ask a thoughtful question, provide the right materials and give the child enough time to discover something for themselves.

At Choicefield School, we want children to think, explore, make mistakes, try again and develop confidence in their own abilities.

Because meaningful learning does not always begin with a formal lesson. Sometimes, it begins with time, curiosity and play.
