Quoi as a filler word
Quoi is one of the most confusing filler word to beginner French learners. Technically, it is translated as “what” in English,
It’s used to ask questions:
Tu fais quoi ? (What are you doing?)
Il a fait quoi? (He did what?)
As a filler word, quoi is better translated as “you know?”
In fact, it’s used to give weight or highlight what you’re saying:
C’est une belle voiture, quoi ? (It’s a beautiful car, you know?)
