Today i'll talk about the #5 #9 chord.

Taking the key of C major as an example, the chord will be spelt this way C-E-Ab-Bb-Eb.

This chord can be voiced this way:

LH: C

RH: E-Ab-Bb-Eb

This chord can be used in place of the 3rd. It serves as a passing chord to the 6th.

For better understanding, play this chord in the key of Ab which will make C become ''mi'[that's if you are checkung by solfa]

This chord has several other functions apart from serving as a substitute chord for ''Mi'' and passing chord to ''La''

How do you voice your 7th chords? Dunno, i guess. I am going to teach you a pretty simple way to do that starting with the major 7th chord.

Let's say we are in the key C major. Then our major 7th will be C E G B.

The first thing to do here is to pick the first note and give it to the left hand and as for the remaining three notes, try playing the triad from the root to it's inversions.

LH: C
RH: EGB/ GBE/ BEG

The left hand remains the same while you try out the three different chords in the right and determining which one that works well for the texture you intend to hear or achieve. Apply this also to minor, dominant, diminished and augmented 7ths.

Playing in all keyz has been the dream of virtually every growing musician. I dnt need to stress this much but you need to know the truth.
First of all i'm going to ask you a question. Which chord, scale, licks, nuances, songs e.t.c do you knw in that your own comfortable key?
Identify them and pick them one after the other, then move it around the kbd up and down in semi-tones and most important, recognize the key you are playin in at any point in time. You can work in the cycle of fifths and fourths, very helpful tool.

I want to give you one tip from the tips of song scoring. Always listen to the bassist since he is the one who, most of the times, supplies the root of the chords played. Then listen for the rest of the notes above the root which tells you which chord quality was formed over that root.
