: On 17 June 1958, Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart was published by the London-based publishing house William Heinemann.

In what has become a metaphor for African civilization, the work describes the simultaneous disintegration of its protagonist, Okonkwo, and his village, Umuofia.

In many estimations, Things Fall Apart is the finest novel written about life in Nigeria in the nineteenth century. It is unquestionably the world’s most widely read African novel and has been translated into over fifty languages.

When it is time for a monkey to die, every tree becomes slippery. We believe that the current decline in reading culture is a clog in the wheel of development and self-actualization in rural areas. As a call, we suggest that communities find their way back to the basics of building a civilization. This includes raising school enrollment and completion rates and reducing learning poverty. We insist that every child before 8 years (max) should be able to read and write. 🇳🇬

Every child deserves a decent and dignified life. As community change-makers, we identify, nurture and support future writers, speakers and debaters who will lead the way in human rights advocacy, social justice crusades, civic engagement and community governance.
