*_TEACHERS: PAYING FOR THE NEGLECT_*

*We Made Teachers Bêggars… and now we’re Paying the Price.*

They once stood tall with chalk in hand—now they bend low with bowls, begging to survive.

We strïpped them of dignity.

We mõcked their tãttered clothes.

We turned a noble profession into a national shãme.

At every PTA meeting, we ãrgued about paying them well.

We expected them to teach with passion on an êmpty stomach.

Now, most of the best minds avoid the classroom.

They choose tech, trade, and even TikTok—but not teaching.

Our children sit before those who never wanted to be there.

Some teachers now double as Okada riders.

Some sell second-hand clothes during and after school hours.

Some can't afford their own children's school fees.

We see them trekking long distances.
We pretend not to notice.

The same teachers who shaped our paths now sleep hüngry.

But we still demand miracles in our education system.

Let’s not pretend—we did this.

By nêglecting them, we built a generation that lãüghs at books.

By underpaying them, we raised youths who can’t spell “rêspect.”

By humiliating them, we kïllêd the future of our nations.

Until we restore the honour of teachers, the classroom will remain a grãvêyard of dreams.

_It's time to rise._
_If you're a parent, speak up._
_If you're in power, act._
_If you're a teacher, don’t lose hope._

*_Because without teachers, there is no tomorrow._*

A Message to Our Dedicated Educators

As you nurture young minds, remember that each child in your care carries a seed of greatness, waiting to be cultivated. You may not know which one will bloom into a remarkable individual, but every child deserves your best.

Teach, guide, and treat each student with fairness, love, and care. You have the power to shape their future and inspire their potential.

May God bless you as you carry out your vital work with dedication and compassion.

Let's spread love, care, and inspiration in our schools and communities!

Been an Educator is not a job but a call...

As Educators we must be intentional about giving the best of our best to our pupils and students...

Educators are destiny builders.

Errors made by any profession can be corrected easily but an error by an educator is an error on destiny.

Societal impacts either good or bad is a product of an educator...

I AM AN EDUCATOR, I AM A DESTINY BUILDER
I PLEDGE TO BUILD BALANCE DESTINY
I PLEDGE TO KEEP SEARCHING FOR THE BEST TO BUILD THE BEST
I GIVE NO ROOM TO MEDIOCRITY

SO HELP ME GOD

"On this day, my team of comrades and I had our South-West Cultural day, Award day (a culture set by my predecessor, the late Comrade Mrs. Alabi Merit), and our Maiden Dinner Nite. It was a glorious occasion, and it's hard to believe it's already been four years since then. However, I'd like to share some key lessons on leadership that every team leader should know:

1. As a leader, create a clear and compelling vision and sell it to your team. Make sure they understand and buy into it.

2. Create a sub-team head responsible for developing and delivering the project or vision. Empower them to take ownership and lead the charge.

3. Give your team unhindered access and freedom to operate. Trust them to make decisions and take actions that align with the vision.

4. Go where your team hasn't gone before. Be willing to take risks and lead by example.

5. Stand with your team no matter the discouragement from people above or below you. Be a rock for your team and support them through thick and thin.

6. Outsource and in-source funds and support for the team. Be resourceful and creative in finding ways to support your team's goals.

7. Appreciate your team for every action or idea that contributes to the actualization of the set goal. Be their motivator and cheerleader every step of the way, no matter how discouraging things may seem.

8. Prepare for criticism and be open to it. Not everyone will agree with your vision or methods, but be willing to listen and learn from constructive feedback.

9. Expect disappointment but stick to your plan. Not everything will go as expected, but stay committed to your vision and adjust course as needed.

10. Celebrate your team in public, but correct errors in private. Give your team the recognition they deserve, but address any issues or mistakes privately to maintain morale and trust.

These lessons have helped me grow as a leader, and I hope they will do the same for you."

Loyalty is a scarce commodity...

Loyalty is also vice‐Versa.

A leader loyal to his subjects will also earn the loyalty of his subjects and same goes to the subjects

*Leading with the heart: Building a Thriving School Community*

I remember been called upon to lead a school through crisis some years ago because the leadership of the school was unable to meet up with their expectations.

Honestly, that was my first time leading in that capacity and I did not have a clue on what to do. I decided to start with a conversation with the proprietor about the vision of the school, had conversations with some of my colleagues on how to get started with my new position, all these yielded little results because midway into the term, eighty percent of the teachers in the school were ready to resign their job!. This particular incident drove me to a point of reflection and research, and I started leading with my heart.

If you are school leader or you have staff turnover issues in your school, here are 3 tips that helped me earn my staff trust and retained most of them till I left the school.

I) Know yourself: start by understanding your own values, strengths, and passions. What drives you? What inspires you? When you lead from a place of authenticity, it resonates with others, and it can lay the foundation for a positive work environment.

II) Embrace relationships: Building genuine connections is key. Make time for students, staff, and parents. Listen actively, offer support, and celebrate their successes. A simple hello in the hallway can make a world of difference.

III) Empathy is the bridge: Step into the shoes of others. Try to understand their perspectives, challenges, and aspirations. Empathy fosters trust and creates a safe space for learning and growth. This means taking note of events going on in your staff lives. It isn’t just about wishing them happy birthday, but also asking about their recent camping trip, mother-in-law’s surgery, etc.

IV) Actively listen: actively listening to others shows that you value them and their opinion or perspective because it gives them the opportunity to speak and be heard. Do not listen to respond, listen to hear.

V) Be honest: It is never a clever idea to hide things, it erodes trust. Even in those times when you can’t share everything, be honest, and explain that you will share as soon as you possibly can.

Leaders who consistently show these traits above and others: active listening, ability to make connections, honesty, empathy, and vulnerability create a safe environment, which ultimately fosters creativity and productivity.

An employee who does not feel heard will not be as productive as one who does. Employees who do not feel that their leader is being transparent and honest with them will not be able to unleash their creative spirit.

As noted, these characteristics are intertwined and when a leader falls short on one, they fall short on all because it erodes at trust, which is the corner pin to safety; without safety, employees will not be able to harness innovative ideas or complete tasks with efficacy.
