“THE NIGERIA OF MY DREAMS”
Nigeria my Fatherland, the land blessed with vast amount of Natural and Human resources, which if well tapped, harnessed and properly managed, would make Nigeria among the most developed Countries in the world.
Mahatma Gandhi had a dream and the dream was to free India from the clamps of Colonialialism. Mahatma Gandhi lived and died for his dream, he was killed a year after his dream of an independent India was actualized. Dr Nelson Mandela had a dream for his country; South Africa. He dreamt of a Country where political subjugation and inhuman apartheid policy would be truncated. He was imprisoned because of his dream for his people, but at the end of the day, his dream prevailed and apartheid was truncated.
Our Forefathers had a dream for an independent Nigeria. They fought colonization with so much Nationalistic zeal. Many of them were prepared to pay the supreme price. Eventually, on October1st 1960 their dream gave birth to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The World is ruled by dreamers. Every advancement in human history was orchestrated and championed by a dream in the heart of one man. Dreamers foresee a better future for themselves and their society; they create a picture of a glorious destiny for their generation. Many of the greatest accomplishment in history have been done against impossible odds, because someone had a dream.
I have a dream of a new Nigeria; I dream of a Nation where security of lives and properties is guaranteed and the rate of robbery is at its lowest ebb and one can walk safely during the day and in the night without fears
I have a dream that one day Nigeria would be a corrupt free society, where her people would be law abiding and exhibit high sense of discipline in every facet of their lives. Then it would be a taboo to give or accept bribe. Our Policemen and Civil Servants would no longer request for gratification before discharging their duties. People would no longer dispose refuse indiscriminately, urinate and defeacate anywhere. Our Streets and Cities would be clean.
I have a dream of a Nation with adequate telecommunication facilities, where when you call for help during an emergency, call friends and family you get connected immediately, not to keep on trying and trying.
I have a dream of a Nation where there would be freedom; freedom of speech, information, association etc equality and the spirit of enterprise. A Nation that would be ranked among the developed economies in the World with a high per capita income. The problem of unemployment would be a thing of the past; there would be enough industries to absorb our young graduates. Even then, our youths would take pride in becoming Entrepreneurs; starting their own small businesses. Poverty would be completely eradicated. There would be sufficiency of food for all Nigerians, because the Agricultural sector would be completely revamped. Nigeria would be one of the leading exporters of Agricultural products instead of importing as in the case now.
I have a dream of a Nation where there would be adequate provision of uninterrupted power supply all year round to enhance rapid industrial growth and development of cottage industries, thereby providing employments.
I have a dream of a Nation with good transportation system; a Nigeria with good roads, railways and fewer occurrence of accidents.
I have a dream of a Nation where the standard of Education is at the upmost peak, and students from other Countries come to enroll in our Schools, where Universities are not closed half of the year, where public Schools have the highest standard of Education and the rich and the poor go to the same School.
I dream of a Nation where you don’t have to join queues to buy fuel in petrol station. I dream of a Nation; Nigeria been one of the highest exporters of Crude Oil in the World, to also be one of the largest exporters of refined products. e.g. kerosene, diesel, petrol etc.
I dream of a Nation where its Citizens are proud of their tribes and also of their Country. I dream of a time when other Countries would copy our Cultures and Traditions.
I have a dream of a Nation where there is peace. Christians loving their Muslim neighbours and vice versa. A Nigeria where there is no religious riots, conflicts and hatred. Where people from the North could be peacefully working and residing in the South and vice versa. I have a dream of a Nation where the people see themselves as one. This is my Faith, this is my hope. This is the Nigeria of my dreams.
