Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum cinerariifoliumis) is one of essential botanical resources used for natural and eco-friendly pest control. It is also used for non-agricultural pest control.
The pesticidal part of pyrethrum plant is the flowers hence pyrethrum flowers have active ingredient called Pyrethrin which is potent in controlling wide range of walking and flying insects in crop farms, greenhouse, poultry pen, animal pen, hotels, homes, food processing factories, cafes, restaurants, schools, camp, hospitals and warehouses.
Some of the eco-friendly products from Pyrethrum flower include;
1. Insecticidal dust,
2. Pyrethrum Flower Extract (PFE)
3. Aerosol Insecticide Spray
4. Mosquito Coil
5. Shampoo

Earlier this week, I participated in a 2 days "Community Restitution Workshop on Endogenous Knowledge" which gathers key stakeholders in agriculture comprising researchers, extension agents, agripreneurs, farmers, food processors, community leaders and other .
I was privileged to share some indigenous knowledge and local technologies relevant to sustainable development of agriculture in Africa with key focus on .

Africa is endowed with so much and resources needed to grow safe food, protect crops and animals, live healthy and protect the environment. We've got to be intentional in accessing this endogenous knowledge.

The Knowledge Center for Organic Agriculture (KCOA) is established to collect and validate existing scientific and on organic agriculture, share with the disseminators and transmit to the value chain actors while networking them.
