The event of the Award of Patent certificates to NIFFR on two of her digital Inventions: Robotic Arms for Boat-Operated Lift Net for Capturing School of Fish as well as System and Method for Computer Vision Assisted Detection and Counting of Fingerlings.
The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Bar. Dr. Kinsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, presented the certificates to the Executive Director/CEO of NIFFR represented by Dr. Joshua Alayemola Abiodun (Director of Research Operations/Coordinator Technology and Innovation Management Unit, NIFFR) on Tuesday 2nd December 2025 in Abuja.
Flanking the representative of the Executive Director/CEO during the receipt of the award were DG/CEO of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Director of Technology Acquisition and Research Coordination (NOTAP), Engr. Dr. Abhulimhen Solomon Okouzi (Head of Program, Product Development Program and Principal Inventor, NIFFR) and Dr. Josiah Adoga Ihuahi (Head of Department, Product Development and Engineering, NIFFR).
The Federal Government at the patent certificates presentation pledged to support Patent Owners in order to strengthen innovation, enhance intellectual property, job creation and economic growth of the Country.
Speaking at the presentation of Patent Certificate to thirteen Researchers and Inventors in Abuja. The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kinsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN said that the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to ensuring that Innovators, Researchers and Inventors become industry magnet by turning their ingenuity into product for commercialization, thereby creating jobs for our youth and reducing poverty to the barest minimum.
The Minister said that the Ministry is charged with the responsibility of driving the countryβs transition from Resource to Knowledge-Based Economy, formulate and implement national policies to promote research development, innovation and technological transition for sustainable and socio-economic development of the country.
Dr. Udeh explained that the Nigerian Content in Programs, Contracts, Engineering, Science, Technology and Innovation Bill 2025 has been passed by the National Assembly and transmitted to the President for assent. The bill he added is designed to provide a robust legislative backbone for local content in non-oil and gas sector.
He pointed out that Executive Order No. 5 is strategic milestone to prepare the nation for industrialization and global market dominance that will enhance the countryβs foreign reserve.
The Minister urged the Awardees, Universities, Research Institutions and Private Sector to work assiduously to ensure that intellectual property is transformed to products for commercialization that will enhance global competitiveness.
