14 NIGER PUBLIC SCHOOLS BENEFIT FROM ₦5M UBEC/NSUBEB SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT GRANT

Minna: Fourteen selected public schools across Niger State have benefited from the ₦5 million School Improvement Grant provided by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB).

The grant, released directly into the respective School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) accounts, is aimed at supporting priority interventions identified by the schools to improve teaching and learning.

Speaking at a one-day sensitisation meeting and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Project Implementation Committees (PICs), the Director of Social Mobilisation, NSUBEB, Hajiya Zahra Ibrahim, who represented the Executive Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, urged the committees to utilise the funds judiciously and strictly for approved school improvement projects.

She warned that the Board would not tolerate abandoned or uncompleted projects, disclosing that independent monitors had been engaged to closely monitor implementation and ensure compliance with project standards.

In her presentation, the UBEC Resource Person, Mrs. Catherine Maddor, explained that the direct funding mechanism was designed to promote community ownership, noting that the school community, being the direct beneficiary, should take responsibility for the success and sustainability of the projects.

She therefore called on communities to support and take ownership of school projects, stressing that successful implementation would strengthen the case for further interventions.

The highlight of the meeting was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between NSUBEB and the Project Implementation Committees of the beneficiary schools.

NSUBEB TAKES INCLUSIVE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN TO EIGHT EMIRATES, SEEKS TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS’ SUPPORT

Bida: The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has commenced an advocacy and sensitization campaign on Inclusive Education, covering Alternative Education for the Girl-Child, Early Childhood Education and Special Education across the eight Emirates in the State.

The advocacy drive, which is aimed at mobilising traditional institutions and communities towards ensuring access to quality education for all children, was flagged off at the Palace of the Etsu Nupe in Bida.

Speaking at the flag-offp ceremony, the Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Abdullahi Rani, underscored the importance of inclusive, early childhood and special education to the development of children and society.

Hajiya Rani commended NSUBEB for taking the campaign to the traditional institutions and for championing efforts to bring out-of-school children back to the classroom.

She called on traditional rulers across the State to support the government’s drive towards achieving education for all, stressing that the active involvement of traditional institutions remains critical to reaching communities at the grassroots.

Representing the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, the Director, Special Programmes, Mallam Abdulmumin Babafada, said the Board was committed to advancing inclusive and alternative learning opportunities while strengthening early childhood and special education.

He explained that the advocacy campaign would be extended to the other seven Emirates in the State to solicit the blessings, support and cooperation of Their Royal Highnesses in the collective effort to ensure that every child of school age has access to education.

According to him, the initiative is in line with the Board’s commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in the State’s education system.

Responding, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Abubakar, CFR, who was represented by the Galadiman Makarantan Nupe, Alhaji Mahmood Mustapha, commended the management of NSUBEB for initiating the advocacy campaign and for choosing Bida Emirate as the starting point.

He noted that the Etsu Nupe had remained at the forefront of efforts to revive and promote education across the Bida Emirate through the Bida Emirate Education Foundation.

Alhaji Mustapha assured the NSUBEB team that district and village heads would take the message of the campaign back to their respective communities and mobilise parents and other stakeholders towards supporting the initiative.

On behalf of the Etsu Nupe, he wished the advocacy team a successful tour of the remaining Emirates.

The highlight of the event was a paper presentation by Dr. Nalado Abubakar Liman of Umar Sanda Ahmadu College of Education, who spoke on issues surrounding inclusive education and the need for greater stakeholder participation.

Also featured was a presentation by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Farid Foundation, Minna, Hajiya Aminat Jummai, who highlighted the importance of collective action in promoting educational opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

The advocacy campaign is expected to continue across the eight Emirates, with NSUBEB engaging traditional rulers and other key stakeholders to strengthen community support and advance the goal of education for all in Niger State.

NATIONAL GREEN INITIATIVE PLANTS TREES AT NIGER SUBEB HEADQUARTERS

Minna: The National Green Societal Empowerment Initiative, a non-governmental organisation, has planted trees at the headquarters of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Minna, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at promoting a clean, healthy and eco-friendly environment.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman/CEO of the organisation, Alhaji Ismaila Aliyu, said the initiative was driven by the organisation’s passion for environmental sustainability and its desire to complement the efforts of the Farmer Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago, in advancing the development of Niger State.

He commended the leadership of NSUBEB, led by the Executive Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, for its commitment and tireless efforts towards addressing challenges in the basic education sector.

Alhaji Aliyu disclosed that the organisation’s philanthropic environmental interventions had extended to several public places and expressed its readiness to extend the tree-planting initiative to public schools across the state.

Flagging off the exercise, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, represented by Full Term Member I, Hon. Abraham Umar, appreciated the organisation for its foresight and commitment to environmental sustainability, describing a healthy environment as essential to human survival.

NSUBEB, UBEC MOVE TO STRENGTHEN QUALITY ASSURANCE WITH CAPACITY WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOL HEADS

Minna: The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has commenced the first phase of a four-day capacity-building workshop for Headteachers and Principals on Quality Assurance Practices and Procedures.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, expressed optimism over the impressive participation of school heads and urged the participants to take the training seriously, noting that the knowledge and skills acquired would enhance their capacity for effective school administration and improve learning outcomes.

Dr. Liman, who was represented by the Full-Time Member III and Coordinating Member of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department, Hon. Samuel Jonathan Mokotso, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening quality assurance as a critical pillar of the ongoing transformation of basic education in Niger State.

He emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for school administrators, stressing that effective quality assurance remains essential to ensuring compliance with educational standards, improving teaching and learning, and achieving sustainable progress in the basic education sector.

In a goodwill message on behalf of UBEC, the Commission’s North-Central Desk Officer on Monitoring and Evaluation, Mrs. Deborah Dajep, commended the leadership of NSUBEB for its commitment to the training and retraining of key education personnel.

She noted that equipping Headteachers and Principals with relevant knowledge and professional skills would contribute significantly to improving the quality of education and shaping the educational future of Niger State.

The four-day workshop is expected to deepen participants’ understanding of quality assurance practices, strengthen their administrative and monitoring capacities, and enhance their ability to effectively support teaching and learning in schools across the State.

CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

I, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, the Executive Chairman, Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), on behalf of the Management and Staff of the Board, deeply commiserates with the Farmer Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Farmer Umaru Mohammed Bago, over the tragic loss of the artisanal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna.

The unfortunate incident is deeply painful, particularly the loss of young lives at such a tender and promising age. Their passing is a sad reminder of how precious every life is and how devastating it is for families and communities to lose their loved ones under such circumstances.

We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgive the deceased, grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, and give their families the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

We also pray Almighty Allah to grant Your Excellency the wisdom, courage and strength to navigate this difficult period and overcome the numerous challenges confronting the State. May He continue to guide your administration and grant you the wisdom to take decisions that will promote the safety, peace and wellbeing of the good people of Niger State.

NSUBEB, SEDI EXPLORE PARTNERSHIP TO STRENGTHEN BASIC EDUCATION

Minna: The Management of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), led by the Executive Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, has paid a working visit to the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI), Minna, to explore areas of partnership and collaboration aimed at strengthening teaching and learning in basic education across the state.

The Chairman was accompanied by Full-Time Member I, Hon. Abraham Umar, and Full-Time Member II, Hon. Mohammed Mudi.

The visit was a return engagement following an earlier visit by the Institute to NSUBEB, aimed at deepening discussions on areas of mutual interest and identifying practical solutions to challenges within the basic education sector.

Receiving the delegation, the Overseeing Officer and Chief Executive of SEDI, Engr. Dr. Jafaar Mahmud, mni, expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for the visit and reaffirmed the Institute’s readiness to support the education sector through its mandate of developing and producing scientific equipment, educational materials and other innovative technologies.

He disclosed that the Institute also has the capacity to produce school furniture and other educational resources, noting that such capabilities provide opportunities for locally developed solutions to some of the challenges confronting the education sector.

In his response, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, assured the Institute of NSUBEB’s readiness to collaborate, stressing that the Board would continue to explore strategic partnerships capable of improving the quality, accessibility and learning environment of basic education across Niger State.

Dr. Liman noted that the proposed collaboration aligns with the administration’s commitment to advancing the New Niger Agenda of the Farmer Governor, His Excellency, Mohammed Umaru Bago, particularly in ensuring that every school-age child has access to quality basic education supported by appropriate infrastructure, equipment and learning resources.

He expressed optimism that the partnership would provide sustainable, locally driven solutions that would further enhance teaching and learning in public basic schools across the state.

NSUBEB INSPECTS COMPLETED LEGACY SCHOOLS IN KONTAGORA, NEW BUSSA, AS PROJECTS SET FOR HANDOVER

Minna — The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has intensified its monitoring of the ongoing Effective Legacy School Projects across the state, as two of the seven flagship projects in Kontagora and New Bussa have been completed and are set for handover for effective teaching and learning.

The Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, directed the Full-Time Member III, Hon. Samuel Jonathan Mokotso, and Full-Time Member V, Hon. Mohammed Mamman Auna Dan Sokoto, to inspect the completed projects at Zango Primary School, Kontagora, and Richard Lander Primary School, New Bussa, respectively.

The inspection was aimed at ensuring that the projects were executed in strict compliance with the approved specifications and standards, in line with the Board's commitment to providing safe, conducive and quality learning environments for children across Niger State.

Speaking during the inspection, Full-Time Member III, Hon. Samuel Jonathan Mokotso, expressed satisfaction with the quality and level of work executed at the project sites. He commended the commitment of the Niger State Government under the leadership of the Farmer Governor, Rt. Hon. Umaru Mohammed Bago, towards revitalising basic education infrastructure across the state.

Hon. Mokotso called on the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facilities and remain vigilant in protecting the schools from vandalism and other forms of abuse, stressing that the sustainability of the government's investment requires the active participation of the communities.

He further reaffirmed the Board's determination to introduce and sustain reforms capable of repositioning the basic education sub-sector for greater efficiency, improved learning outcomes and overall prosperity.

According to him, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB is providing the sector with the passion, commitment and leadership required to drive meaningful transformation, assuring Nigerlites that “more is still to come.”

The completion of the two projects marks another significant milestone in the Effective Legacy School Programme, with attention now shifting to the remaining five projects, which are also at various stages of completion, with many already at the finishing level.

The development is coming alongside the Board's commencement of the renovation and rehabilitation of about 400 basic schools across different communities in Niger State, further demonstrating the government's renewed commitment to transforming the state's education infrastructure.

The interventions, according to the Board, are part of the broader vision of the New Niger Agenda to create functional, modern and child-friendly schools while ensuring that every school-age child in Niger State has access to quality basic education.

With the renewed focus on infrastructure, teaching and learning, community participation and institutional reforms, Niger State is steadily witnessing a new era in the development of its basic education sector.

NSUBEB TRAINS BASIC EDUCATION SCHOOL SPORT OFFICERS AND LGEA SPORT DESK OFFICERS.

Minna-Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) organized three-day intensive training for school sport coaches and sport desk officers for local government education authorities across the three senatorial zones of the State on 8th-10th September, themed “Enhancing grassroots sports development for future champions.”

The Executive Chairman of Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman while speaking during the opening ceremony for the participants of Niger-East held at the Niger State Sports Commission said that the essence of the training is to enhance not only the coaching skills but the management of pupils and most importantly-the technicalities on how to respond to emergencies during sports activities as well as ensure that the pupils are fit for training or competition.

The Executive Chairman said that basic sports and competition is intended for talent discovery most especially catch the future champions young in their respective sports, He charged the participants to listen attentively to the resources persons in the interest of the people and scale up in their various local education authorities across the zone.

The Director of Social Mobilization, Mallam Zahra Ibrahim who represented the Executive Chairman urged the participants to prioritize community sensitization and mobilization of critical stakeholders in partnership with School Base Management Committee (SBMC) to ensure maximum cooperation and responded to the questions raised by the participants.

The resource persons thoroughly engaged the participants on all thematic areas itemized to update the technical know how of the sport and desk officers of LGEA across the state.

Highlights of the interactive training included the certification of participants and resource persons by NSUBEB sports desk officer.
