MINNA – The leadership of the College of Arts and Islamic Studies Old Students Association (CAISOSA) has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the ongoing transformation of the education sector under the administration of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

The delegation, led by the National Chairman of the Association, Hon. Umar Baro, visited the Chairman at his residence in Minna, where they presented a comprehensive report on the association's activities, achievements, and ongoing initiatives geared towards promoting educational development and supporting schools across the state.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Umar Baro assured the NSUBEB Chairman of the association's unwavering support towards the successful implementation of the education mandate entrusted to him by the Farmer Governor, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago. He noted that CAISOSA remains committed to contributing its quota to the advancement of quality education in Niger State.

In his response, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman expressed appreciation to the association for its continued support and dedication to educational development. He commended the leadership of CAISOSA for fostering unity among its members and sustaining the values of fellowship and service that have defined the association over the years.

The NSUBEB Chairman urged the association to intensify efforts aimed at bringing all former students together under one umbrella, stressing that a united alumni body can serve as a formidable force for community and educational development."The bond shared by old students is a valuable asset that can be harnessed for the growth of our schools and the development of future generations. I encourage you to strengthen that unity and channel it towards meaningful interventions in the education sector," Dr. Liman stated.

He further called on members of the association to continue supporting government initiatives in the education sector, emphasizing that collective responsibility and collaboration remain essential in achieving sustainable progress.

"To whom much is given, much is expected. As beneficiaries of education, we all have a duty to contribute towards improving the standard of learning for our children. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous educational system in Niger State," he added.

The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to fostering strategic collaboration and partnerships that will enhance basic education delivery and encourage greater alumni participation in the development of schools across the state.

NIGER SUBEB SET TO CLEAR PROMOTION BACKLOG FOR 2023–2025

The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has declared its readiness to commence the long-awaited promotion exercise for teachers covering 2023 to 2025, as part of efforts to boost productivity, morale, and commitment within the education sector.

The Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, made this known during the Forum of Education Secretaries meeting of the Niger State branch held in Paikoro.

Represented by the Board Secretary, Associate Professor Aminu Aliyu Wushishi, the Chairman disclosed that necessary approvals have been secured to clear all outstanding promotion backlogs, a move aimed at eliminating stagnation and enhancing efficiency among teachers across the state.

He emphasized that the current Board, which assumed office within the last five months, has been working tirelessly to address the needs and demands of teachers. He assured that under its stewardship, teachers in Niger State would have every reason to smile, as their welfare remains a top priority.

The Board Secretary also called on Education Secretaries to support ongoing reforms and ensure fairness and transparency throughout the promotion exercise. He urged them to cooperate fully with the committee that will oversee the process to guarantee a level playing ground for all eligible teachers.

He further used the opportunity to express appreciation to the Farmer Governor, His Excellency, Umaru Mohammed Bago for his consistent support and commitment to the development of basic education in Niger State.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), NSUBEB Branch, Comrade Jamilu Adamu Kilishi, commended the Board for fostering a conducive working environment within the system. He also appreciated the Governor for approving the extension of teachers’ retirement age to 40 years of service or 65 years of age, describing it as a significant boost to the profession.

Also speaking, the Dean of Education Secretaries in Niger State, Dr. Usman Tukura, expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the Board, noting that its direction has been impactful. He pledged the continued support of Education Secretaries for all programs and initiatives of the Board.

The forthcoming promotion exercise is expected to address long-standing concerns among teachers and further strengthen the basic education system in Niger State.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILLORS FORUM VISITS NSUBEB, HONOUR EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

The Forum of Local Government Councillors in Niger State paid a familiarization, congratulatory, and appreciation visit to the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), commending the Executive Chairman and the Board’s management for their well-deserved appointments and ongoing efforts to revamp the education sector in the state.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Forum and Councillor representing Malale ward in Borgu Local Government Area, Hon. Umar Abbas, stated that members of the forum have closely monitored the leadership style and performance of the Executive Chairman. He noted that, based on their observations, they have reached a firm conclusion that the Chairman has performed exceptionally well. In recognition of this, the Forum presented him with an award as the Best Executive Chairman of the Year.

Hon. Abbas further highlighted that the Board’s initiative to allocate ten new school projects to each local government area demonstrates a strong commitment to improving educational infrastructure. He added that this effort aligns with the campaign promises of the State Governor to reposition the education sector and give it a new direction.

He also called for a sustained partnership between the councillors and the Board, emphasizing the need for effective monitoring and supervision of the projects to ensure quality delivery and prevent substandard work.

In his response, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, expressed his gratitude to the Forum for the visit and the honour bestowed on him. He acknowledged the importance of local government legislators as critical stakeholders who are closest to the grassroots, noting their vital role in promoting good governance and serving as ambassadors of government policies.

Dr. Liman further explained that the State Governor, Farmer Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago, has fulfilled the obligation of paying counterpart funding, which has enabled the Board to embark on the proposed projects.

He assured that these initiatives will significantly improve the quality of education and benefit children across the state.

The Executive Chairman also disclosed that the Board has been directed to prioritize the engagement of qualified local contractors in order to promote local content and economic development.

He urged the councillors to take the message back to their communities and sensitize the people at the grassroots on the government’s commitment to improving their welfare and advancing the education sector.

NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING EDUCATION AS NSUBEB DISTRIBUTES TEACHING AND LEARNING MATERIALS TO SCHOOLS

The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to quality basic education for children across the state in line with the vision of the New Niger Agenda.

This assurance was given by the Executive Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, during the official flag-off ceremony for the distribution of teaching and learning materials to schools across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state.

The event took place at the headquarters of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) in Minna.

Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, the Governor stated that the exercise goes beyond a ceremonial event.
“This occasion is not merely ceremonial; it is symbolic of our administration’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the education sector and laying a solid foundation for sustainable development in our dear state,” she said.

Dr. Asabe commended NSUBEB for the remarkable work it has continued to carry out in strengthening basic education in the state. She also expressed appreciation to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for its steadfast support and continuous collaboration with the state government in providing critical interventions and developmental assistance to schools.

She further noted that the transformation of the education sector remains central to the realization of the New Niger Agenda, assuring that the government will continue to provide the necessary policy direction, funding support, and enabling environment required for NSUBEB to sustain its impactful interventions.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his purposeful and visionary leadership.
According to him, the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the transformation of education in the state continues to inspire the Board to pursue reforms and initiatives that will improve learning outcomes across public schools.

Dr. Liman also acknowledged the productive partnership between NSUBEB and UBEC, noting that the collaboration has significantly enhanced the Board’s capacity to implement impactful educational interventions across the state.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, represented by the Niger State UBEC Coordinator, Mr. George Oboh; the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris; the Director General, Schools and Education Reform, Hajiya Maimuna Mohammed; the Chairman, Senior Secondary School Education Board; and the Executive Chairman of Agaie Local Government Area, Hon. Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu, all congratulated NSUBEB and the Niger State Government for the initiative. They emphasized that the development of education requires collective responsibility and called for greater partnership and support from stakeholders.

Items distributed during the exercise include:
* 80,100 copies of exercise books
* 80,100 pencils
* 39,675 pairs of school sandals
* 39,675 school bags
* 42,991 copies of primary school textbooks in four core subjects
* 6,840 copies of History textbooks

The highlight of the event was the commissioning of the Farmer Governor Umaru Bago ICT Literacy Centre at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Primary School, Minna, aimed at enhancing digital literacy among pupils.

NIGER SUBEB HONOURS EXCELLENCE, PRESENTS REGIONAL BEST TEACHER TO THE COMMISSIONER

The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has formally presented the North Central zonal best teacher, Mrs. Khadijah Galadima, to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, in recognition of her outstanding achievement at the 2026 National Teachers’ Summit.

The presentation ceremony, held at the NSUBEB Conference Hall in Minna, was organised to officially introduce the award recipient to the Commissioner for onward presentation to the Executive Governor of Niger State. The event celebrated the teacher’s exceptional performance and the pride she has brought to the state.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed noted that teacher training had suffered setbacks in the past but emphasized that, since her assumption of office, professional development programmes for teachers had been revitalised across Niger State. She described the national award won by a Niger State teacher as clear evidence that ongoing training initiatives were yielding positive results.

The Commissioner stressed that continuous capacity building would remain a top priority of government, adding that structured training and motivation of teachers were critical to achieving sustainable transformation in the education sector.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, expressed delight over the feat achieved by the state’s representative. He stated that the honour would inspire other teachers to strive for excellence and assured that the Board would continue to implement policies aimed at strengthening the basic education system.

Also speaking, the North Central Director of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Elder Edward Abalaka, described the award as a pride to the entire zone and announced a cash gift of one hundred thousand naira to the recipient in appreciation of her dedication and hard work.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Adamu Akayago, congratulated Mrs. Galadima and called for her promotion as a reward for excellence. He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to partnering with NSUBEB and the Ministry to improve education delivery in the state.

In her response, the award recipient, Mrs. Khadijah Galadima of IBB Primary School, Minna, expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to intensify her efforts towards uplifting the teaching profession and impacting positively on her pupils.
Mrs. Galadima received a twenty–five million naira national award, in addition to a five million naira support grant from the Kebbi State Government.

She was widely celebrated as a dedicated and committed teacher whose achievement has dispelled the notion that teachers’ rewards are in heaven.
