175 Niger State Schools Set for Solar Power as AGILE Opens Bid Process

The Niger State Adolescent Girls' Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has successfully conducted the bid opening for the Supply and Installation of Solar Systems to 175 Selected Schools in Niger State under Component 2.2B – Digital and Remote Learning Skills and Component 1.1 – New Construction.Held on 18th August 2026 at the Niger State AGILE Office, the bid opening represents another important milestone in the project's efforts to strengthen school infrastructure and expand access to technology-enabled teaching and learning across the state.

The procurement process, RFB No.: NG-NIGER ADF-557975-GO-RFB, was conducted in accordance with established procurement guidelines, ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability. Representatives of bidding firms, project officials, and other stakeholders witnessed the exercise.

The installation of solar systems in the selected schools will provide reliable and sustainable power to support digital and remote learning facilities under Component 2.2B, while complementing infrastructure investments being implemented through Component 1.1 – New Construction. The initiative is expected to create a more conducive learning environment, improve access to digital education, and enhance educational outcomes for adolescent girls and other learners across Niger State.

Niger State AGILE Commences Cohort 2 Alternative Education Beneficiary Enrollment, Trains Enumerators for Statewide Exercise

The Niger State Adolescent Girls' Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, in collaboration with its implementation partner, Women Advocating for Gender Solutions and Mentorship (WAGSM), has conducted the training of enumerators for the Cohort 2 beneficiary enrollment exercise under the Alternative Education component.

In her welcome address, the Project Coordinator of the Niger State AGILE Project, Hajiya Maimunat Ibrahim Tahir, emphasized the need for a transparent, credible, and inclusive enrollment process to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are reached.

The Executive Director of the State Agency for Mass Education, Mal. Yunusa Jibrin, represented by the Director of Continuing Education, Malama Halima Gogo Aliyu, delivered a goodwill message and urged participants to carry out the exercise with professionalism, integrity, and commitment.

The training equipped enumerators with the knowledge and practical skills required to conduct the enrollment effectively. Sessions covered the overview of the AGILE Project; the objectives of the beneficiary enrollment exercise; beneficiary eligibility criteria and the selection process; enrollment procedures and data collection; data quality, ethics, confidentiality, and informed consent; practical demonstrations and mock enrollment exercises; as well as the signing of Enumerator Indemnity and Undertaking Forms.

The exercise is expected to ensure a smooth, transparent, and accurate beneficiary enrollment process, thereby supporting the successful implementation of the Alternative Education Programme and expanding learning opportunities for out-of-school adolescent girls across Niger State.

Niger State AGILE Concludes Three-Day Training for Reproductive Health, Family Planning and GBV Coordinators

The Niger State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, in collaboration with the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has successfully concluded its three-day training for Reproductive Health, Family Planning and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Coordinators across the state’s three senatorial zones.

The final day featured plenary discussions, experience sharing, the development of facility action plans, training evaluation, and feedback sessions to document lessons learned. It also included an expert panel discussion on _“Strengthening Adolescent Health Services in Niger State: The Role of Reproductive Health, Family Planning and Gender-Based Violence Service Providers.”_ Participants completed a post-test assessment to evaluate the knowledge gained during the training.

In her closing remarks, the Niger State AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Maimunat Ibrahim Tahir, commended participants for their active engagement throughout the training and urged them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to strengthen adolescent health services in their facilities and communities.

A participant representative delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the Niger State AGILE Project and its partners for the impactful training, and reaffirming their commitment to implementing the lessons learned.

Day Two: Niger State AGILE Deepens Capacity Building for Reproductive Health, Family Planning and GBV Coordinators

The three-day training organized by the Niger State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, in collaboration with the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, continued across the state’s three senatorial zones with engaging and practical learning sessions.

Day Two featured presentations on Adolescent Development; Pregnancy, Pregnancy Prevention and Childbearing; and Mental Health, Substance Use and Addictions. Participants also engaged in group exercises, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and practical activities designed to strengthen their counselling and communication skills.

The training continues to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively promote adolescent health, reproductive health, GBV prevention, and overall well-being in schools and communities across Niger State.

Niger State AGILE Commences Three-Day Training on Adolescent Health, Family Planning, GBV Awareness and Nutrition Promotion

The Niger State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, in collaboration with the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has commenced a three-day capacity-building training for Reproductive Health, Family Planning, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Coordinators across the state’s three senatorial zones.

The training is holding simultaneously across the zones: Zone A in Bida, Zone B in Minna, and Zone C in Kontagora.

Declaring the training open, the Niger State AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Maimunat Ibrahim Tahir, gave participants an overview of the AGILE Project and highlighted the objectives of the training and expectations of participants. She emphasized the importance of equipping coordinators with the knowledge and skills required to effectively support adolescents in schools and communities.

Also speaking at the opening session, the Deputy Project Coordinator, Malam Salisu Danjuma, underscored the significance of the training. He noted that it would strengthen participants’ capacity to promote adolescent health, prevent gender-based violence, and encourage healthy lifestyle choices among young people.

On the first day, participants received presentations on key topics including: Introduction to Adolescence and Adolescent Health and Well-being; Sexuality, Sexual Behaviour and Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH); Interpersonal Communication (IPC) and Counselling Skills; as well as practical counselling demonstrations and role-play sessions.

The training is designed to enhance participants’ capacity to serve as effective advocates and resource persons for adolescent health, family planning, GBV prevention, and nutrition promotion, thereby contributing to safer and healthier learning environments across Niger State.

AGILE Project Moves to Strengthen Digital Learning with Public Bid Opening

The Niger State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has conducted the public opening of bids for the Supply and Installation of Digital Equipment in Selected Schools under Component 2.2b – Digital Literacy.

The exercise brought together key government officials, the Project Coordinator, members of the AGILE Project Implementation Unit, Procurement officials, Representatives of bidding firms, and other stakeholders.

The bid opening was conducted in accordance with World Bank procurement regulations, reaffirming the project’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and accountability throughout the procurement process.

The procurement will facilitate the provision of desktop computers, printers, motorized projectors, routers, and one-year internet connectivity to selected schools. This is aimed at strengthening digital learning and expanding access to quality education across Niger State.

Niger State AGILE Organizes Security Management Workshop for 534 School Principals

The Adolescent Girls' Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, in collaboration with the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, organized a one-day Security Management Sensitization Workshop for 534 public secondary school principals in Minna.

The workshop focused on protecting lives, identifying security threats early, and creating safe learning environments for students and teachers.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, emphasized that school principals are the first line of defense in safeguarding schools.

Speaking at the workshop, the State Project Coordinator of the Niger AGILE Project, Hajiya Maimunat Ibrahim Tahir, emphasized that a safe and secure school environment is fundamental to achieving quality education outcomes. She noted that while the AGILE Project continues to invest in improving access to education and school infrastructure, these efforts can only achieve their intended impact when learners and teachers feel safe and protected. She urged principals to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop by strengthening security measures in their schools and fostering collaboration with parents, communities, and security agencies to ensure safer learning environments across the state.

Presentations were delivered by security resource persons from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force Safe School Initiative, who made a firm call on all participants to remain security conscious. They also urged principals to strengthen school security plans, improve visitor management systems, promptly report suspicious activities, and collaborate closely with parents, host communities, and security agencies.

Participants described the training as eye-opening, noting that school security is a shared responsibility. They expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would help them strengthen security measures and promote safer schools across Niger State.
