Al-Hafiz, Abū al-Qāsim Ibn ʿAsākir (may Allah have mercy on him), said:

My brother, may Allah grant both you and me success in attaining that which pleases Him, and make us among those who truly fear Him and observe the bounds of piety toward Him, understand that the flesh of the scholars is poisonous. Allah’s established way of exposing and disgracing those who disparage them is well known. Whoever allows his tongue to speak ill of the scholars, Allah Most High will afflict him, before his death, with the death of the heart. Allah Most High says, "Let those who oppose His command beware lest a trial befall them or a painful punishment afflict them."
